I want to donate baby clothes to a local family in need - but how?

We have 3 DC under 4 inc b/g twins and accordingly have an absolute fuckload of baby clothes. We were given two complete "wardrobes" by friends who had completed their families and bought some stuff we liked, too. We are now done with babies and have bags and bags of perfectly decent baby gros, rompers etc from good quality makes.

I would love to give them to a local family rather than a charity shop that will sell them. They were bought with love and I would love it if a family struggling with bills could have some really nice stuff for their little ones.

But how? My local food bank doesn't accept clothing donations. The children's centre is no longer staffed by HV but by Barnardo's workers who will take clothing but only to sell.

Would be great to just pass it direct to someone who will be glad of it. Any ideas?

I wanted to do the same. My local church took in donations for local children. Or woman’s refuse.

I also posted them on Facebook if anyone knew anyone that was struggling to pass them on to them etc - obviously doing it that way means it could just be a chancer taking them though.

Alternatively eBay them and give the cash to local family centre etc.

Refuge Blush

Facebook. Specify who you’re looking for, I think most people wouldn’t take the p. Maybe easier in age bundles?

Local women's refuge. Google for your area and you will be able to find a drop off point. I need to do this again as have quite a few outgrown winter coats around.

icebearforpresident · 11/09/2018 17:36

Call the health visitor direct. Mine has taken loads from us over years, even things like unopened nappies.

MrsMarigold · 11/09/2018 17:37

Where do you live, if in North London contact Pram Depot

bookmum08 · 11/09/2018 17:38

Salvation Army are good for this - they often have links with refuges/safe houses/families who just need extra help etc.

Dollyandteddy · 11/09/2018 18:24

If you’re in London Little Village is amazing. They have drop off points in Balham/Tooting Bec and somewhere in north London.

Leeds2 · 11/09/2018 18:29

I volunteer for my local Home Start, and I know they take clothing donations (and packs of nappies) which they pass on when needed.

Refuge is also a good shout, but I read so often on MN that people call the number to arrange a drop off/collection, and no-one ever gets back to them. Which is understandable but also, I guess, frustrating.

There are charities that pass on clothes and baby related stuff (prams etc) through hvs to parents in need. Depends on your area though.

Your local Children's services may know families in need. Also refuges and charities working with asylum seekers often can pass things on to people who desperately need them. A lot of cities have charities that collect item to pass directly onto families including clothes, toys and baby equipment so Google your local area just in case.

If you do a search using 'Baby Bank' you may be able to find one nearby. They are fantastic and always need donations.

Xiaoxiong · 11/09/2018 18:44

I was about to say search for a local baby bank as well! We have a fantastic one that gets all its referrals from social workers, sure start, local health visitors and midwives. In our area they advertise through Facebook for the things they need the most.

ChoccyJules · 11/09/2018 18:46

Is there a Besom in your area? Ours takes baby clothes.

mnahmnah · 11/09/2018 18:47

Our local Morrison’s has their own clothes bank in the car park, which gives to the local community’s families in need

Flowersonthewall · 11/09/2018 18:48

Nct sometimes run a bundles charity and there are local charities that take baby stuff for families in need. Have a google or ask on fb x

icannotthinkofauser · 11/09/2018 18:48

download the OLIO app

Notquiteagandt · 11/09/2018 18:55

Are there any refugee organisations nesr by? Or womens refuge? These types of people usually flee with nothing.

Do your local midwives have any drop in clinics etc. Sure they could point you in right direction.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/09/2018 19:05

Hi, great ideas! I have emailed my local women's refuge and if not, will try Homestart.

Mw normally by appt only and children's centre run by a charity which takes donations for their shop,!
