Need to ask neighbour to take down windchimes - can I write a note?

I know windchimes sound pretty insignificant compared to some of the troubles people have with their neighbours, but they are very very annoying.

Their garden backs onto ours so we never speak to them or see them in the street. Would it therefore be okay just writing a polite note to ask them to take them down? I don’t want to sign it. All the previous threads say just go and ask but that would be really awkward and I’m no good with confrontation

Thanks

Good luck! I asked my neighbour to take hers down last year..she hasn't spoken to me since (although she did take them down!) 😂

What did you do OP?

DolorestheNewt · 13/09/2018 14:31

I like the idea of taking a voucher so they can buy a noiseless hanging decoration, or perhaps taking a hanging basket or a plant - anything. But I would do it in person, OP (as you have decided from your last post) - a note isn't really a good idea, and an anonymous one is a dreadful idea, though I do understand the underlying anxiety behind it.

Oh, I've just realised I'm late to the party! Were they OK about it, OP?

GreatDalmatiom · 20/09/2018 20:11

I’m back with an update! I’ve been putting it off, waiting for the right time. Eventually went round this evening and although they didn’t seem too happy about taking them down, they said they would. 2 hour’s later and they’ve gone! Amazing!

Thanks so much for all the advice. Thanks to you I will be able to sleep so much better now

Now I’m wondering how to thank them and show my appreciation ....

MargaretDribble · 20/09/2018 20:19

Whatsthispain you aren't my neighbour are you? When we moved into our house a woman I'd never seen before (or since) knocked on our gate to say that our security light shine in their bedroom. I must have looked shocked because in the two days we'd lived in the house none of us had realised we had a security light over the back door.

Little bunch of flowers and card to say how much you appreciate their understanding?

shortgreengiraffe · 20/09/2018 20:24

Flowers and a card would be nice.

Wind chimes are fab! Much better than screeching kids and barking dogs.

If you have neighbours you have to expect noise I’m afraid. Suck it up
