Anyone tried a weighted blanket?

They're meant to aid sleep and anxiety apparently. I thought it would be a good addition to the household for me and/or DSs.

Not sure what weight would be appropriate, not least if all of use it on occasion.

Welcome any thoughts! Especially recommended brands as it seems there's a few out there.

I made my own weighted cushion. Just bought a very textured, lovely cushion cover and then filled with dry beans. I used a guide online to work out the weight appropriate for me.
I use it for ptsd, it helps when I'm triggered to have it on my lap.

There are lots of guides online if how to make a lap blanket for children with autism, might be worth a look?

Following with interest. I want to look into this and a light box for this winter.

i have used a thick scouting wool blanket which is quite heavy. Put this over ds when he was having a run of nightmares and he slept much better. Only works when the weather is cool and he has a thin duvet over him already.

Not used one myself but regularly use them at work, is there a particular reason you think it would be good for DS? They are brilliant for PTSD and ASD and those with anxiety to relax. They shouldn't be used for longer than 30 minutes.

Interesting re. making one, and interesting you're not meant to have them on too long!

My eldest just started secondary school and he is quite an anxious child, often hopping into my bed (which isn't an issue in itself).

He loves cuddly toys and fluffy throws and I thought it might be something comforting to help him settle.

I've started having a run of shite sleep, probably a knock on from his anxiety... really interesting links - thanks all.
