Newly single parent with squat all experience of this kind of thing.

The boiler is about 16 years old but has never caused any issues whatsoever.

Is their a lifespan of a boiler and it should be replaced irrespective of whether working well or not.

Many thanks

Sydney, they were good reliable boilers, manufactured in Hull, with solid Yorkshire engineering!
My plumber says he has had clients who ask him to try and get hold of second hand ones being taken out of old houses - because they’re so much more reliable! Sadly, they’re not made any more, as all modern ones have to be the condenser flue type.

Pretty much as everyone has said, don't replace unless you have to.
Keep it serviced properly for safety but resist suggestions that it 'should' be changed and ask around.
More modern boilers are more efficient but use a lot more 'technology' to achieve this and it is usually this that fails. If you had time and interest to look up the efficiency of your existing boiler and compare it to a new one you could then do some fairly simple maths to work out if it would be worthwhile changing due to efficiency. I would hazard a guess it probably won't be.

I think ours is about 20 years old. Plumber said a really solid brand. Never had an issue. Last year, when everyone’s pipes were freezing with combi modern boilers, ours was fine. I think they made them better in the older days!

Funnily enough ours is also an Ideal Mexico....truly a golden oldie! I would love to know if any modern boiler is as solidly made.
