Duvet for menopause night sweats

As the title suggests , I'm suffering from awful night sweats , Forget pyjamas - I need a wet suit and snorkel , I'm absolutely soaked !

My sleep is so disturbed - duvet on ,duvet off X 1000000000

I can't sleep with just a sheet as I need something heavy on me , what do other sufferers have as bedding ? The only thing I can think of that's heavy but not hot is chain mail !

I found wool or silk much better than a normal duvet but not sure about your weight requirement.

Oddcat · 10/09/2018 22:44

It doesn't have to be very heavy , I just find a normal sheet not heavy enough . I've tried low tog duvets but they're still too hot .

My mum only uses proper wool blankets since she went through the menopause. The old fashioned slightly itchy ones that people used in the olden days before duvets. She says they aren't as sweaty as duvets as they're natural fibre and breathable. They are quite heavy. I think she uses a cotton sheet between the blankets and herself because of the itchyness.

A baavet might suit? I don't have one but have heard good things about them.

here's a link.

Thanks for the suggestions , I think my mum still has some old blankets , I'll give it a go . Honestly, if I don't get a full nights sleep soon I'll go mad !

I have a feather duvet as I need the weight but cotton covers and sheets, plus cotton pjs really helps me, I get soaking night sweats too, wake up like I’ve just gotten out of the shower. Really horrible. Have you been checked for menopause as they can be caused by other conditions, it’s worth mentioning to a dr if you haven’t. I’m told I’m not menopausal but have been cleared of the other possibilities, being under 40 and very likely peri menopause kicking in offers very little medical intervention.

Cotton seems to be good as it soaks up then dries quickly, pjs mean they catch a lot of the wetness and I can slip them off leaving the bed drier and more comfortable in the wee small hours of the night.

I'm 54 so pretty sure it's menopause. I can't bear wearing pyjamas in bed but if it helps soak up the sweat I'll give it a go.

How low a tog have you tried? I’ve seen 1.0 tog duvets, maybe in Dunelm Mill or Debenhams? Otherwise I believe silk is a great fabric for regulating body heat.

duvets

A sheet with a fleece throw or 2, or a cellular blanket, sometimes a cotton bedspread. I find the fleece throws work best for me as they are lighter than cotton, but if you like the weight then a candlewick bedspread or one of the cotton throws from IKEA. The Indian cotton type ones, used to be called Indira but don't know what they are now.
Have tried various combinations.
I keep a summer weight duvet rolled at the end of the bed in case of cold nights and just pull it up if needed.

My wool duvet from Soak & Sleep has been a godsend for this!
