Tick bite/spider bite? Pic attached

DH noticed his leg get super itchy all of a sudden. Didn’t feel a bit or anything at any point. A bit of swelling before. No obvious puncture point, does it look like a spider/tick bite? Tiny white dot in the middle. Inner leg/back of thigh above the knee

Did you DH get out of the bath just before the itchyness?

Harleypuppy · 10/09/2018 21:19

Mosquito bite. I had one that blistered like this on holiday.
Antisan or hydrocortisone cream and an antihistamine should help.

Could be a tick, a friend came back from France with similar looking rashes. Went to the doctors who diagnosed him with Lyme's disease and set him in a course of antibiotics. As it was caught early he should make a full recovery (my university lecturer died from Lyme's disease!) I would get checked out sooner rather than later.

Tick bites have a quite obvious target type shape. Keep a serious eye on it, if it’s a tick bite, he’ll need antibiotics. I’d clean and try to squeeze cos I’m a sporner, but squeezing may spread the poison/cause more damage than it’s worth.

How do you spot that that is Lyme's? My dh gets bitten a lot and they usually look like that or variants on that theme. Some are awful looking. His mate got a spider bite that was horrific. Just wondering how you differentiate ordinary bites from Lyme's. I had thought you needed to look for a bullseye but I can't see it there. Am I just missing it?

Nope to just getting out the bath. Was sat on the sofa.

OP, in our house that would be antisan and maybe a bit of fucidin/fucidin h. But I cede to those who know about Lyme.

WeakAsIAm · 10/09/2018 21:34

Tick bites cause a "bulls eye"type mark (erythema migrans). They don't usually itch.

Saggital · 10/09/2018 21:39

Nope to just getting out the bath Ah, that rules out a great white shark then. They have been moving closer to home this year with the increased temperatures, so I did wonder. It is too small for a tiger. I believe other posters may well be right. More like a tick or a flea.

Enidblyton1 · 10/09/2018 21:39

That looks like a reaction to a mosquito bite.

@saggital phew! Very relieved we don’t have to clean out the pipes to remove lurking sharks, I guess in the style of the purge from the vents in Alien?

Tick bites don't tend to itch, although they do eventually drop of you'll often see the tick still attached. Not all cases of Lymes will have the bullseye rash though.

Thanks. Today he said it feels more like a bruise/painful if touched. Not as hot as it was yesterday and a slight swelling underneath
