Just noticed the cat has fleas! What do I treat it with? I was going to use frontline but people have told me horror stories..

I used the advantage drops that go on the back of their neck. You might have to do your house too though!! I forget what the sprays are called but you have to do the whole house.

SneakyGremlins · 10/09/2018 16:01

The whole house? Shock

Sorry, I use the drops. Every 4 weeks. I get them from viovet.

Yes, Sad if the fleas are in the carpets, beds, sofas etc

WhiteVixen · 10/09/2018 16:09

Advantage flea drops (you can get them online without having to go to the vets for a prescription, I use Animed Direct) and Indorex flea spray for the house. Although tbf I only ever use the drops on my two cats, I've never sprayed the carpets or anything.

happymummy12345 · 10/09/2018 16:09

Indorex spray the whole house. You can buy it from the vet. As well as treat the cat.

SneakyGremlins · 10/09/2018 16:12

The house will have to wait, only got enough to treat the cat for now!

We take our cat to the vet for an injection once a year (usually about now when the fleas come inside for the nice warm central heating)

And as a double whammy (vet says it's not necessary) at the same we wash all the cushions and sofa covers and then spray the whole house with Virbac Indorex Spray. The injections are supposed to be done every six months and the spray lasts 12 months but the two together keep us flea free for the best part of a year.

SneakyGremlins · 10/09/2018 16:13

But thanks everyone, have ordered items!

SneakyGremlins · 10/09/2018 16:14

notangelina Ooh what's the injection?

fenneltea · 10/09/2018 16:15

Frontline Plus works, and helps to control fleas in the environment.

QueenNovo · 10/09/2018 16:19

Frontline plus didn't work for my cats, I got a treatment from the vets called Bravecto which is supposed to last 12 weeks.

ProfessorMoody · 10/09/2018 16:24

Frontline doesn't work. Nothing over the counter will work, you need proper flea treatment from the vet and Indorex spray for your carpets and soft furnishings.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 10/09/2018 16:26

notangelina how much is the injection? One of my cats is very prone to fleas and it brings him out in horrible dermatitis as he is allergic. An injection sounds like it might be good for him.

CrochetBelle · 10/09/2018 16:28

Do you not use a preventative?

SneakyGremlins · 10/09/2018 16:57

Crochet I do but I was doing it every few months as he's an indoor cat..

Miladymilord · 10/09/2018 17:00

Front line or advantage didn't work at all. We get a pill from the vets, it's Brill.

Meet0nTheIedge · 10/09/2018 17:05

We have the injection too, our cat hated the spot-ons and its easier to take them in twice a year than do spot-ons monthly. We pay £12 a month for a scheme that includes annual vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, check-ups and discounts off other services.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/09/2018 17:15

The injection stops fleas breeding, it wont stop the cat getting them.

Ours isn't routinely treated for fleas and hasn't had them for about 7 years.

Indorex is cheap in supermarket pharmacies.

OutPinked · 10/09/2018 17:33

Honestly when my cat got fleas last year it took me a couple of months to get rid of them entirely. I spent an absolute bomb on flea spray, tablets, powder, spot on treatments etc. I even bought a flea lamp at one stage which did catch a fair few but not all of them! I hoovered daily and emptied the hoover every time. I bathed the cat (which he loooved Wink) every other day and would comb through afterwards with the flea comb 🤢. It was a wretched stressful time.

In the end advantage flea drops got rid of them and acclaim flea spray all over the house. They thankfully never returned.

serbska · 10/09/2018 17:41

Why haven’t you been treating preventatively?

You need to get to the vets and get advantage on prescription.

And indorex for the house and treat the house in line with instructions.

Part of owning a cat is looking after it with flea treatment!

serbska · 10/09/2018 17:42

Not advantage.

advocate is what you need on prescription.

dementedpixie · 10/09/2018 17:45

Advocate or stronghold plus for the cat. Indorex for the house

mintich · 10/09/2018 17:55

I've used frontline plus with no issues

SneakyGremlins · 10/09/2018 17:57

serbska I haven't been able to afford it.

That's it really. Can't afford the vets so it will have to be frontline. Will juggle someiney around to treat him monthly from now on.

Pile of clothes he sleeps on has gone straight in the washer on a 90.
