I would like to access help and support privately is this possible ?
To make a private appt and have a prescription for anti depressants and for my own (nhs) gp to not be informed ?
Is this an option ?

For very personal reasons I don’t want to go into i don’t want to go through the nhs for this but I can’t find the answer online

Or is there something I can purchase that would help? St. John’s wort is all that I get when I google

In short, no. It will be linked to your medical records via your NHS number. Medical people need to know what medication you are taking in order to treat your correctly. There are certainly plenty of medications that shouldn't be taken together or will affect how one of them works, so whoever is prescribing things needs to know exactly what you are taking.

That said, only someone who is treating you (or who you've given permission to) will be able to access these records. So if there is a GP, for example, who you don't want to access your records, then they will have no legal reason to do so, and would get in a huge heap of trouble for doing so.

Honestly, I would see a doctor about depression. Self medication for these things is not always very helpful. St Johns Wort interacts poorly with quite a few things too, so you need to be careful with it.

I can’t 😔
It’s ok. I will try and sort this out. Maybe I can find a counsellor who will not need my nhs number and I can try that instead. I’ve iust been reading about Kalms a s to be honest I’m not sure about plants and homeopathic remedies but could be worth a try perhaps

Oh and please don't try buying anything online. Anything from an online pharmacy that is sold without a face to face consultation and a proper look at your medical records is just really not safe or helpful. And anywhere where you buy something without a prescription... well you could be getting anything. There is so much counterfeit medication around :S

paprikachilli · 10/09/2018 14:40

No I def wouldn’t buy prescription medication I’m breastfeeding so need to get it from a proper dr if not not at all. I’ll speak to a pharmacist and see what’s suitable
Thankyou

If you are breastfeeding, perhaps there is a midwife or health visitor that you could speak to?

Definitely do not self medicate if you are breastfeeding. Just because it is "herbal" or "natural" doesn't mean it is safe. St Johns Wort has been linked with colic and infant sedation.

paprikachilli · 10/09/2018 15:01

All goes back to gp or on my notes whoever i speak to within the nhs.
I can’t risk it
I’ve just been through hell and anything like this opens it all up again I should be able to ask for the help I need and I really can’t.

You can make an appointment with a private psychiatrist and pay for your prescription privately.

AbsentmindedWoman · 10/09/2018 15:08

Echo advice to not self medicate.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 10/09/2018 15:25

I did this. Private gp then private psych in private hospital. I didn’t consent to any sharing with my GP.

PlinkPlink · 10/09/2018 15:32

I would recommend 5-HTP but you won't be able to have it as you are BF.

The same applies for Kalms. I bought Kalms to help with my PMS anxiety... but I can't take them yet as I'm still BF too.

Don't dismiss the herbal stuff... it does work. When I had chronic insomnia and sleeping tablets stopped working, I had to work on it myself. But I also drank Valerian tea. Works very well. Like a more powerful chamomile. Even the box says don't drive after drinking it.

I believe Kalms has Valerian extract in it actually.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 10/09/2018 15:56

Maybe worth calling a private GP, they're available all around the country but you might need to travel. Obviously you'll pay for the consultation, any tests, the GP to write the prescription etc but a call might be enough to find out if you can refuse your own GP access.

Phosphorus · 10/09/2018 15:59

I'm pretty sure you can refuse to have private treatment linked to your NHS records.

I think not sharing is the default isn't it?

paprikachilli · 10/09/2018 18:58

I will look into it
I just don’t want the gp to think I’m not coping as have been through a very bad couple of years and don’t want people interfering in my life again

NewUserNameTime · 11/09/2018 08:24

OP identifying you need support is coping. Please see your GP Thanks

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 11/09/2018 08:44

Why don't you want your NHS GP to know? Surely your health is a priority?

paprikachilli · 11/09/2018 21:01

Because I had a traumatic experience. A false allegation made to ss. I thought ‘it’s totally untrue and I can prove that’ but I wasn’t listened to and all proof was ignored for months.
An investigation took place which found no concerns but the closing line said any further concerns in the future they would re investigate to protect the children from FURTHER harm. They weren’t ever harmed
I’m terrified that a MH issue could be he trigger for another investigation they’ll think I’m not coping when the truth is I was fine and because of all that happened now I’m not fine

It ground me right down and made me depressed
