How’s your DC getting on at reception?

My DD is on day 3 today, her first full day.

She’s cried a lot each of the 3 mornings. Cries at drop off, cries during the day.

How long until she feels better? It seems such a long time for her to be at school (8.30-3.30). She’s been at nursery since she was 3 but only did half days.

How’s your DCs getting on?

Great. But down here they start full time the term after their 3rd birthday. So for us that was last April.

He's also got the same teacher and has been with a childminder since he was 1.

Eldest started last week and loves it. She was disappointed that there was no school at the weekend 😂 It's the first week of full days, so I suspect the novelty will wear off.

Sorry I got it wrong. It was part time term after 3rd birthday in April.
Then last September they stared full time

Mine started out positive but has now declared that it is boring, and she hasn’t even started full days yet! I think there’s a lot of emphasis on routines in the first few weeks (lining up, sitting quietly on the carpet etc) I’m hoping once that’s all established it will get more interesting for her!

DD has done almost 2 weeks - started on the 4th and is just starting to really enjoy it
She cried the first few mornings but as soon as she had something to do in the classroom she was fine
She’s loving her homework, though that probably won’t last too long, wants to do p.e. every day and was sad this morning because school wasn’t open

My DC have mostly been fine, a bit quite/shy but otherwise ok, and seem to have enjoyed it when I pick them up.

I have seen lots of other little ones in their year group crying though, and taking a bit longer to settle, so purely based on that, it seems pretty common, and not anything to worry about unduly.

I've over-heard the teachers mentioning to parents if children have cried during the day, some of them have over not being able to do something/play with a toy/whatever, again seems relatively common in the first few weeks. [I wasn't deliberately eavesdropping, by the way, just happened to be within earshot while waiting to speak to another parent]

Is the teacher worried about it, or just letting you know?
