School day breakfasts

My son started school last week. He was previously in nursery where it didn't matter too much if he didn't eat breakfast/had a small breakfast (few bites or mouthfuls) as they had a snack at 9am.

He is pretty much a none breakfast person and it can be hit and miss as to whether he will have anything.

At school he doesn't have a snack (as far as I'm aware) so lunch is at 11.45.

Any sure fire ways to get him to eat something? I even caved this morning and he had 2 sausage rolls for breakfast 🙈

Mine have a cheese spread, nutella or jam sandwich or porridge. Or sometimes banana on toast.

Hmmm. Can't see anything on the website regarding snacks

Get whoever is dropping off tomorrow to ask the teacher.

I make little omelettes in cupcake tin and have them in the fridge for a quick breakfast. I mix eggs with whatever I feel like putting in, spray the tin with frylight and cook till golden about 10 mins. Nice warm or cold.

How about a yogurt and fruit?

Waffles - can buy in lidl/aldi then pop in the toaster.

Or a brioche/crepe to eat on the way.

Make a smoothie or thick milkshake. Can add oats/seeds/peanut butter for added energy.

Or get him up earlier so he feels hungry. Personally I can't eat until I've been awake a couple of hours.

My school allows fruit only as a breaktime snack. No cereal bars or anything else, just fruit. They also have their milk just before break.

Chosenone · 09/09/2018 19:37

picky bits? a small croissant or brioche and some sliced banana. A yoghurt? Variety cereal boxes are a good idea as kids do like to choose and open them themselves

Smoothie with banana? Dd likes.breakfast but if we have smoothie she often doesn't want anything else
.

If you are in the UK and your child is in reception they should be getting a piece of fruit or veg everyday, preferably at morning break.

I think you mean England rather than the UK as that scheme doesn't run in Scotland which is why I used to send a snack in with my dc's

TrashPanda · 09/09/2018 20:05

Yeah I did mean England, sorry. Was posting quickly in the middle of bed time, should stop trying to multi-task.

Like my DD Starlight. Especially as she doesn't eat the fruit before playtime. And she's in year 6, so doesn't have lunch until 12.30.

Fluffyears · 09/09/2018 20:58

Scotch pancakes (usually get 6 in a packet from supermarket) are lovely if you put them in the toaster for a few minutes. A couple of them might be good.

InglouriousBasterd · 09/09/2018 21:03

DD is also a non breakfast person! All my valiant attempts at eggs etc have been met with retching Grin she now has a warmed through croissant, brioche or pain au chocolat. Better than nothing and she eats well the rest of the day.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 09/09/2018 21:04

How about making a quick smoothie.

I picked up a little machine and then use the bags of frozen fruit with apple juice. Not ideal but at least DD was having something.

nocuts love the mini omelette idea, I’m going to give them ago.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 09/09/2018 21:09

My dd has been at 2 schools in key stage one one you had to provide a healthy snack the other provided snack so I'd just ask the teacher or the office.

Piggyhoolier · 09/09/2018 21:10

My DS loves banana oat pancakes which feel like a treat but are actually only banana, egg and oats so super healthy & filling. I make them the night before and he eats them cold or heated in the microwave for a few seconds on cold days. Top with honey & fruit if there’s time to eat at home or have plain in the car - they are completely portable.

llangennith · 09/09/2018 21:25

I take DGS to school by car, 15 min journey. The days he wouldn't eat breakfast I would cut up an apple into a plastic bowl and plonk it on his lap in the car. He ate it.
He's 10 now and eats cereal for breakfast.

missmapp · 09/09/2018 21:34

Eggy bread ? Easy and quick to do but keep l be going through the morning. A brioche in the car has also been known to happen
