Beds! Tell me about yours...

DH and I have been waking up with aches and pains a lot recently and given we are only in our 30s, we can only blame our 5 year old bed.

Previously, it was go to Dreams or similar and order but now there’s Simba, Leesa and my DS has an Ikea mattress which seems brilliant, so I’m thoroughly confused.

So, if you could tell me about your wonderful beds, that would be great!

We’d prefer a king sized divan —as I just shove crap under a bedstead—

I love my bed!

The base is one of those that lifts up and has storage underneath which is so awesome: we have a couple of overnight suitcases and all the travel stuff that goes in them, a few blankets, spare towels, seasonal clothes in vacuum bags and a load of of pc games under there that are all super easy to access.

The matress is the one premier inn use: we stayed at a couple of different premier inns over about 6 months, and every time found the bed so comfy. It's from Hypnos and there is a link on premier inns website how to buy it. Best £500 I've ever spent.

We've got a sleigh bed frame bought about 13 years ago from a company that supplied hotel furniture, so a good price (they've since closed the business which is annoying).

Bought a new mattress this year, went to John Lewis and have a Hypnos with a topper. It's amazing. I think it's really worth trying mattresses out, I looked at the online ones but wasn't sure about a mattress that comes rolled up! Also I really didn't like Tempur-type mattresses, which I wouldn't have know otherwise.

I too have a premier inn mattress and it’s amazing! I genuinely love my bed almost as much as my DH & DC Grin
The divan is a king ottoman style from MADE. They get a lot of bad reviews but it’s almost 3 years old now and still in perfect condition.

6 ft zip and link mattress with storage drawers underneath - brilliant.
Old now and the mattress does need replacing.

Recently brought a Simba mattress - best mattress I have ever had!!!! Love it Smile

We have a Leesa mattress on an Ikea bed frame with lots of crap shoved underneath.

It is very comfortable. Amazing, I love it. And they take them back within 100 days if you don't like them. The box thing is fine, you just unpack it onto the bed and leave it for a couple of hours and it expands back to it's full size.

Thanks for your recommendations! I didn’t realise that the Hypnos PI mattresses were so reasonable - I’ve always slept brilliantly on them.

How firm/soft are the Simba/Leesa mattresses? We tend to prefer a firmer/medium one. I don’t like the sinking feeling you get with something like a Tempur.

I just got a new bed. It's a small double so I can potentially fit it in a smaller room at some point. I'm single so plenty of room. It lifts up and there's loads of storage and has a posh mattress (can't remember the make).

paddler78 · 09/09/2018 18:52

I would say Simba was medium - firm, you definitely don't get the sinking feeling of a memory foam mattress. I have to say I was skeptical as I don't like memory foam and I was in love with my pillow top mattress, I even kept the box to send it back under the sleep guarantee so convinced was I that I would hate it but I think because it's a combination of foam and springs it works - so much so that we are planning on replacing the kids mattresses with Simba ones.

dangermouseisace · 09/09/2018 18:59

My 2 year old "just like a John Lewis one but cheaper" from a local furniture store, is not at all like my much loved (but too big for my current house) John Lewis mattress.

I hate it. I loved my JL one. It was a pocket sprung one...quite a lot of springs. Every bit of my body was supported and I loved it. It wasn't cheap though. We got it cheaper (after Christmas they have mattress 'special purchase' mattresses for cheaper than normal). I think it was about £1000 but after 8 years I was still loving my bed, and I was very sad to have to pass it on to someone else.

weegiemum · 09/09/2018 19:08

We have an Ikea double bed which I think doesn't exist now. Had it 10 years including the mattress and its superb, always wake up rested and comfy!

CandleWithHair · 09/09/2018 19:16

I have a fairly bog standard divan base with drawers and the most fabulous mattress by Mammoth. I genuinely miss it when I’m away - more than my cats and a proper cup of tea. I can’t think of a higher compliment really. Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 09/09/2018 19:36

I used to have a memory foam mattress because I (stupidly) thought it would be good for my dodgy back.....

It took me 10yrs to realise it was making my back worse!!

I now have a medium/firm (4 out of 5) Sealy pocket spring posturepedic (I think it's the Nostromo?) and it's AMAZING Grin

KnittingSister · 09/09/2018 19:40

We spent about £1000 on one from JL which is so heavy we can hardly turn it without it dropping on us and killing us. Next time I'll be buying the one from PI.

Soontobe60 · 09/09/2018 19:48

We have an Ikea bed frame with huge drawers either side, and have bought a Leesa mattress. I had sore hips and aching back with my ok'd very expensive sprung mattress. I have night sweats. The leesa is excellent. I've had no sore hips or back. The mattress is quite firm, you don't sink into it, it does feel different thN a sprung mattress but we soon got used to it.
