Looks like he's been getting advice from Trump's advisors again!

I'm intrigued at his positioning and eager alienation of potential allies.
Does this mean he profoundly has abandoned becoming PM, but rather wants to become a Farage type thorn in the establishment? This is his new role?

The Independent said that Johnson's divorce would 'remove an obstacle' to BJ getting to No. 10. Why? Can anyone explain what the marriage obstacle was?

FunkyHeroCat · 09/09/2018 09:00

I don't know the details, but going by the headlines it looks like he's just been found out in an affair with one of his aides. That wouldn't play well when trying to oust the PM I guess, particularly for the grey vote which the Tory party relies on!

So this is a giant distraction maneuver from his own personal life failings?

R4 right now is talking (right now) about the political maneuvering.

Neshoma · 09/09/2018 10:12

He'd love to go for PM but the time is never right for him. I think he's just keeping himself in the news.

I was thinking if he was PM, who would be his partner in all the hostings of Heads of State like when Trump visited? His daughter? His current lover? It wouldn't sit right with the traditional Tory voters who like to see a happy (?), traditional couple.

KindergartenKop · 09/09/2018 11:49

I think (hope) he's lost his chance as PM. If the Brexit vote had been a stronger 'leave' and the lies hadn't emerged the next day he could have stood as a Tory leadership candidate on his own and then none if the Gove stabbing would have occurred. He could have won the premiership in those circumstances.

lljkk · 09/09/2018 15:10

It seems like BJ is testing the gaslighting methods of DTrump, if he (BJ) can find a path to power doing the same things. So basically, doing whatever he wants & saying whatever makes him popular in the moment, future contradictions in supposed beliefs are irrelevant.

ginandbearit · 09/09/2018 15:46

Daily Mash headline the other day made me laugh along the lines of ..'Boris Johnson craps himself as Theresa May offers Boris her job ..'
He's not just an immature narcissist buffoon(@ D TRUMP) but can you actually imagine him in a time of crisis in this country where he would be held accountable for his actions?

NewYearNewMe18 · 09/09/2018 15:54

I really couldn't give a shit who he's shagging on the side so long as he does the job properly. the fixation with other peoples sex lives remains a mystery to me. To me it's salacious voyeurism.

He was a brilliant London Mayor and liked by right and left alike.

He was also really quite remarkable as FS , 2 days into the job when Paris was unfolding.

He's not stupid, an idiot, a buffoon (variously mis spelt by fuckwits as baffon? ) or any other of the descriptors frequently lobbed at him. A narcissist he isn't, he's frequently described by people close to him as a 'people pleaser', not someone self grandiose at all.

At least do your research before wading in with the knife.

Although I'm sure a bunch of hysterical middle aged women gum slapping is the least of his worries. Because you are doing what he wants - keeping his profile high.

ginandbearit · 09/09/2018 17:23

'People pleasers' are often narcissisits as they do it to make themselves look good ,avoid confrontation or consequences and very often fail to deliver on their promises

birdsnotbees · 09/09/2018 17:32

Newyearnewme I was quite interested in your opinion until you described me (as a reader of MN) as a hysterical middle aged gum slapping woman. Misogyny is never a good way to win an argument.

My impression of his time as mayor was that he wasn't popular on both sides, but I'm not a Londoner. I'm assuming you are? Could you give some detail on that? I'm genuinely interested (despite your horrible comment a para later) as I just don't 'get' Johnson: he's never (to me) come across well in the press. So, interested to hear the other side.

ragged · 09/09/2018 17:33

I often read that BJ was a terrible mayor who was very good at showmanship but terrible at administration, management & making good decisions.

ginandbearit · 09/09/2018 17:50

Ah penny's just dropped Newyearnewme ..you should be on the other thread re who's shagged Boris ..😀
