Talk to me about guides/scouts or similar

DD1 is a v active 3 year old and likes getting mucky outdoors more than anything. I think she would enjoy something like guides/ adventure scouts when the time comes. I don't know anything about what is available in Britain (I am an ex Brigini, the Irish version).

Can I ask what the various groups available might be, and what the difference between them is, for example are they linked to the church or armed forces.

I am aware that waitlists are likely to be long, so I am starting to think about it now.

Thanks for all the responses, really helpful.

Sounds like I really need to suss out the character of the local groups. I can't see DD being too happy indoors with glitter and glue.

She will do forest school with her nursery and I will look into other woodcraft stuff. I know FSC do summer camps when they are a bit older.

I had read some posts on here from a guide leader concerning their stance on trans issues. I think they have gotten it terribly wrong. I do t believe that women and girls should cede their rights and needs to accommodate those identifying as such. I tend towards the terf camp. Haven't had to tackle this in child rearing as yet, not looking forward to it.

One thing I always remind people.... if you become a leader your child goes straight to the top of the waiting list! You don't even become the sole head honcho, just one of a team who pull it all together.
6 years ago I volunteered for exactly that reason, waiting lists round here are bonkers and by the time we moved to the area DD1 was already 4.
Since then I've been an Assistant Beaver Leader, Head Leader, extra body on Cub and Scout camps. I've made some brilliant friends, and I know most of the kids in the village.
Can't recommend it enough.
