I pull into a leafy lay by every morning for a fag before work. I also pick up the litter has been left overnight to put in the public bins at work. It's a very rural area but close to a well used A road.

Last week there was a plastic Asda bag tied up with what I could see was clothing, a shoe and some wipes. I gingerly picked it up assuming that perhaps someone had been car sick and dumped it.

When I went to bin it I saw that the wipes hadn't been open. I thought maybe someone had dumped it after a crime ( over active imagination). So opened it at home. There's a matching size 10 skirt and cardi, underwear and shoes which all look very new and are all Asda make (George). There's the unopened wipes and a unopened bag of rice. There's also a pair of used hold ups.
Why would anyone dump this lot on the side of the road?
I was thinking wedding but why dump the clothes and why not take the rice home?

I've done this by mistake before! Threw out what I though was the car bag of rubbish and it was some shopping!

AlpacaLypse · 09/09/2018 04:40

Why does anyone dump anything by the side of the road? It's not rocket science to keep a small bin bag in the footwell, stuff sweet wrappers etc in it as and when, and bring it in with you or put it in a public bin once in a while.

Samantha2018 · 09/09/2018 04:42

I didn't mean i dump rubbish btw! just an idea of how the bag got there

Revealall · 09/09/2018 04:53

I don't understand littering at all. But there is sadly new rubbish there every morning. Often a bit of fly tipping. I also found a drivers license and loyalty cards in a wallet which I handed to the police.
I am going to make a little sign asking people not to be dicks.

They could have been rearrainging the boot/moving things in the car for a child put it on the roof out of the way, missed it when reloading and drove off. I've done that loading groceries and drove off with a large cola on the roof.

SilkeOvesen · 09/09/2018 07:22

Yes I think accident: either wrong bag, or accidentally left on the roof.

I always wonder why fly tipping is such a massive issue in the UK (or England at least). It happens in other places but it’s so widespread in the UK. It’s bizarre.

jpclarke · 09/09/2018 08:03

They could of planned a morning run and for someone to collect them there on the way to work and hence have clothes to change into.

Alwa · 09/09/2018 08:04

I can't believe you opened it. You're my hero.

SausageOnAFork · 09/09/2018 08:09

You found a drivers licence in the bag?

Revealall · 09/09/2018 08:25

Nope. The drivers license was a different find.

I suppose you are right and they threw the wrong bag out. I hope so .I wouldn't feel bad that someone had lost their new clothes if they were going to litter with something else.Angry

I did sort of expect a blood stain or something when I opened it. I was sure the baby wipes were used for nefarious purposes. I guess not. Oh well. Probably back to usual litter pick tomorrow of beer and vodka bottles and Mcoys crisp packets..

People in my area dump "clear out rubbish" in public street bins ever since they've reduced black bag waste collections.

It's become a huge problem. It's got so bad you often see several carrier bags attached against a public bin.

Maybe they had a little clear out of random items but no space in their household waste?

MaryBoBary · 09/09/2018 08:33

Why on earth did you take it home to look through if you though it may be from car sickness?!? This is very weird but very commendable for picking up the litter.

lljkk · 09/09/2018 08:35

Kudos to OP for picking up litter.

Bloodylucky · 09/09/2018 09:07

It’s a man dressing up as a woman.

Wipes to take make up off. But he/she may have some already.

Clothes obv.

Rice to make fake bobs with. Put the rice in tights and pop in bra and they make pretty realistic fake boobs for someone who doesn’t want to pay out for breastforms.

Exactly what i thought when i read the OP

TheGateauIsInTheChateau · 09/09/2018 09:31

You are a good person. Can’t wait to see your sign about not being dicks Grin

Even a Sunday morning on mumsnet is a school day and you learn something new.

chasinggarlic · 09/09/2018 09:54

You took a bag that had been dumped at the roadside home to open it Confused

Sorry but that's plain weird. I understand litter picking, but taking stuff home for a look? Why?

LittleBookofCalm · 09/09/2018 09:56

agree, why take it home?
what are you going to do now op?
did you put in on your local facebook page? Wink

WingsofNylon · 10/09/2018 13:30

Why did you take it? It's not rubbish yet so you just stole some items you came across. Put it back. There might be an annoyed person looking for their items.

I'd guess it is a layby used by prostitutes. They left their stuff there when they went off with a client and now you have taken it.

I always wonder that as well. you don't have that in france, netherlands etc

also the dropping chrisp bag into people's front garden.

fresh not binned Flowers to op for picking up the litter

Flyingpompom · 10/09/2018 18:31

This thread is hilarious! "Fake bobs"!

I do think there's a chance someone was coming back for it, OP, so you've basically nicked someone's stuff.

And honestly, taking someone else's rubbish home for a mooch? Too weird mate.
