Is your home stylish?

I’m a childminder so my house is very practical. However my own children are growing up and I’d like to scale back my ‘nursery look’ and bring a bit of grown up style to the house.

Any tips? The first thing we are doing is replacing the cheap, functional, fold away dining table with a proper solid wood table with real chairs instead of fold away ones!

What else would you do to my house?

I'm an ex childminder as well. My house used to look a bit like a children's centre, with everything in neatly labelled boxes.

The first thing I did was get rid of all the plastic. There are still lots of toys in boxes, but they are less obvious. And I got some house plants of the sort I wouldn't have dared to have when the house was full of two year olds.

My home looks very... um... Swedish Grin

Mine is an eclectic mix of everything from antiques to Ikea, so I wouldn't exactly call it stylish. I just fill my house with clutter things I love.

Haha so does mine! Grin

stack I’m also moving away from plastic boxes, it’s so hard isn’t it? I’m trying to get the balance to make sure it’s still welcoming enough for children, parents and of course ofsted!

Surely someone else has a grown up house? 😂

I think you've got the wrong forum here op Grin.

I think the biggest help is enclosed storage. Ditch open shelving, put toys and clutter into baskets with lids, cupboards with doors or drawers. That way its not visible when not in use.

Depending on your house layout, I would suggest having a wardrobe, chest or similar upstairs to store away extra childminder related stuff, and then rotate toys every few weeks.
