These school shoes are quite trainer-y aren’t they?

DS1 starting reception this week. School repeatedly clear states trainer style shoes WILL NOT be tolerated. Shoe shop trip today and while I was stopping 14-month-old DS2 going loopy and eating/ throwing all the other shoes DH and DS1 purchased these. (I thought they had decided on a different pair, didn’t check til we were home.) I think they need to go back, DH thinks I’m being OTT. I’m pretty sure they are the definition of trainer style though Hmm.

Most kids in my school wear these including my own ds

fruitbat2008 · 08/09/2018 21:42

My son also has these from clarks they are fine for school.

GoatYoga · 08/09/2018 21:43

They look fine to me. Very similar to the shoes my three have worn throughout primary school.

They look like school shoes to me.

Virtually identical to every pair my D's has had.

C0untDucku1a · 08/09/2018 21:47

They look fine to me.

ladybirdsaredotty · 08/09/2018 22:12

They look exactly like the sort of shoes every boy at my kids' school wears.

As an aside, DD1 has just started Y2 in brogues she chose herself. I can't believe how quickly she outgrew the little girl styles Confused

hettie · 08/09/2018 22:22

Ds2 school had the same rule... He wore exactly that type of style for 3-4 years or primary

ladybirdsaredotty · 08/09/2018 22:25

Yes, our school also has that rule.

Possumfish · 08/09/2018 22:30

Would be classed as trainers at ours I'm afraid.

SendYouUpInFlames · 08/09/2018 22:30

They dont look like traoners at all. They look like propper school shoes.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/09/2018 22:35

DS' are a bit like that, in a no-trainer school. It appears to be the popular design judging by the number of brands which make them, and market them as school shoes.

confusednorthner · 08/09/2018 22:41

Most of ks1 in our school have similar style to those. Very sensible and not trainers as far as I'd consider.

sdaisy26 · 08/09/2018 22:42

They look like trainers to me but are a very similar style to the ones I’ve just bought for ds...it seemed to be the only style of school shoe available for infant boys in our v posh local independent shoe shop. In fact when the lady showed ds (4) & asked which pair he’d like to try on first he just shrugged and said ‘well they’re all the same’.

At least they look robust. Unlike the styles on offer for dd.

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/09/2018 22:45

They look like shoes all the boys wear at primary school.

dd wears similar .

Be fine Grin

sproutsandparsnips · 08/09/2018 22:54

They look absolutely fine to me. Our primary does not enforce uniform - unless it's a private school I can't imagine these would be a problem at all. Very sensible in fact.

Perfectly acceptable school shoes for reception.

CountFosco · 08/09/2018 23:03

The shoes are perfectly acceptable but primaries can't enforce uniforms anyway so don't worry and don't take them back.

AveAtqueVale · 08/09/2018 23:09

Brilliant we’ll go with majority then! DH will be happy. I sort of wish they weren’t so ugly though...

I just bought my 4 year old shoes nearly exactly the same as them from clarks! And separate trainers so not classed as trainers imo there absolutely fine op

Beingginger · 09/09/2018 00:38

They are shoes, they are leather and polishable.
They look like the shoes that nearly every boy wears at my dc school.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/09/2018 00:46

most primary boys shoes look a bit trainery. as they get bigger feet they get less trainery as there is room for more plain leather.
