Baby has fallen asleep and ....

Wriggled so much that she has become totally free from her sleeping bag (poppers came undone).

It's 22 degrees in her room and she has a long sleeved body suit on. I didn't know what to do (did NOT want to wake her up as it was difficult to get her to sleep) so removed the sleeping bag and placed a cellular blanket over her - tucked it under her legs and armpits with arms out. She's fallen asleep on front in centre of cot.

She's 9mo and very wriggly ....

Is this ok or should I risk waking her to put her back in sleeping bag ?!

Used sleeping bags from birth and have literally never left her with just a blanket before.

(You know when you're so tired you just need people to tell you what to do?)

Thanks x

A blanket is fine!

Shazafied · 08/09/2018 19:32

Thanks ... is a long sleeved vest and one cellular blanket ok in that temp ? I normally use gro bags and they have a table to tell you layers on each temperature !!

I'm having a common sense blip this evening.

It's a cellular one so I wouldn't worry. It has holes so she can breath if it were to roll up. Likelihood is she will wake up if she's a bit cold so you can put her back in her bag then.

It sounds fine to me. She’ll wake up and let you know if she’s cold!

calabresechicken · 08/09/2018 19:33

??? What do you think people who don't own grobags do? Of course she's fine with a blanket!

Shazafied · 08/09/2018 19:35

@calabresechicken I was more asking if that's enough layers !! But as someone else has said if she's cold she'll wake up

Shazafied · 08/09/2018 19:36

Also she will definitely wriggle it off soon and be in just a body suit ... which seems a bit mean!

AfterSchoolWorry · 08/09/2018 19:36

Cold in 22 degrees?

No, she's probably boiling in the sleeping bag, leave it off!

Shazafied · 08/09/2018 19:38

Thanks all, I'm v tired and nauseas (pregnant) and she has cried for most of the evening poor thing. So I just felt even worse that she's going to be lying there with no blanket on (when she rolls over). Silly I know !

I bought a slumber sack with feet (on amazon) for my 9 month old because she is soooo wriggly! She gets out of the sleeping bag and then I worry she is cold. The feet keep her in it all night and she sleeps longer, which is good for all!

Shazafied · 08/09/2018 19:42

@Kerch86 that interesting I'll take a look. It's a cheapo bag from Tesco and I thought maybe the poppers were a bit shit. But I've started putting her to bed awake recently and she did a lot of wriggling about tonight before sleep ... I'll take a look at the one you mention x

You weren't sure and you asked the question. Good on you lass.

If she's a wriggler then whatever you do she'll probably pop out of.

My babies were zillions of years ago and we just had blankets if I remember right.

Shazafied · 08/09/2018 19:45

Ahhh thanks @MrsMozart Thanks

My ten month old just has a long sleeved body suit, no blanket or bag, temp is 22/23 in her room usually and she seems fine.

LulusMiniEgg · 08/09/2018 19:47

Think mine both had pillows & duvets by that age and suddenly started sleeping a lot better!
Sometimes I think they must be cold in gro bags as they aren’t very thick!

Kerch86 · 08/09/2018 19:49

@Shazafied I thought my baby was being a crazy person twizzling around, but a friend mentioned the grow bags with feet and said it changed everything!
The slumber sacks are great, I bought 12-18 months and although it's massive on her now, she stays in it all night (in the morning she loves having her feet out to stand up and say hi! from the cot) and I put her in our bed for a snuggle and it's super cute!

Shazafied · 08/09/2018 19:50

@Kerch86 awww how cute ! I think I'll try one x

You know when you're so tired you just need people to tell you what to do?

Your DD is totally fine (and would have been if you’d left her without a blanket and will be if she kicks it off later, for future reference)

You on the other hand sound like you need a cup of tea and to put your feet up. I always want to hug the OP with posts like this. Flowers

Squirellslostnut · 08/09/2018 19:53

Hi here is a link to the gro bag guide on how many blankets and what to wear. If you dont have a gro egg just look up the guide explaining which temp causes the egg to turn that colour

I find this a useful rough guide to layering when sleeping!

@JudgeRulesNutterButter I need a hug after the day I've had, thanks xxx

Its 22 degrees so she has freed herself from being a sweaty mess! She will be fine I promise, even on her belly! Never wake a sleeping baby. Just let them do their own thing:
I never used sleeping bags with mine as if their too warm they need to be able to freely kick it off like a blanket rather than be cooked.

wolfywolfy · 08/09/2018 22:21

If my baby does this I pop some soft elasticated joggers on him :) it doesn't wake him.

Shazafied · 09/09/2018 09:26

Thanks mumsnet, feeling better and have a bit more perspective this morning. She slept on her front with her bum in the air night !

mommybear1 · 09/09/2018 14:10

She sounds super cute glad you had a better night. Mine is another wriggler GrinI wholeheartedly agree slumbersacs with feet brilliant! My LO worked out his poppers came undone when he pushed his feet up so grobags had to go.
