Party for 4 year olds

Has anyone got any ideas of what to do for a 4th birthday party?
I'd rather not do a huge whole class party and I'd prefer to have a handful of friends. My house is pretty small though! We could feed them at home but if we used the space for a table there's no space for party fun. Does anyone have any bright ideas?

Local attraction? Zoo? Theme park? Or local park with a picnic? (Depending on weather....)

We did DD's 4th (and 5th) parties at home, though with a bit more space (we can have a table up while playing party games). Do you have a very big picnic rug/table cloth that you could put on the floor during the meal? All food (and ideally the children) goes on there during the meal, on the basis it can be cleaned (or binned) afterwards?

Do a teddy bears picnic

If you’re just having a handful of children, 4 is an excellent age for a few games - pass the parcel, musical statues etc. You could also buy something from Hobbycraft to make. We had crowns which the children decorated with glittery stickers. No mess and the children then wore their sparkly creations. Then a party tea and home time.

Do you have a local crafts place you could take them followed by a party tea and cake at home?
We have a place called Spavens where kids can decorate jars and fill them with sweets. Is there anything like that near you.

Some great ideas thanks. It'll be mid December so I think we should avoid outdoor fun!

Normally soft play at that age.

3 or 4 kids and go to the cinema followed by tea at home? My 4 year old loves the cinema

we had my little boys parties at home ( well his 4th was at my parents ) as more space his 5th was st our flat as we had just moved in and he wanted it here so just kept it small. Luckily weather was good so could go in garden it was also a family friend type party we did what's the time Mr wolf, Simon says , pass the parcel and a pinata the just played as it was just friends and family people stayed about 4 hours and we had lunch. I didn't do it this year but last year did a little treasure hunt where they all had to find 2 eggs hidden and they had prizes in.

For DS’s 4th birthday we did “races in the park” with “real gold” medals and a picnic - was just after the London Olympics.

For DD’s 4th birthday, she had about 5 friends over and we did traditional party games and tea.

We are going to the soft play. Easiest option, as you just turn up with a cake and party bags! My house is too small and messy to invite anyone round. Our only problem is that most of her nursery friends have just left to go to big school and we didn't know any of the parents so can't invite them.
