Oh bugger. What have I agreed to?

My brother's fiancée has asked me to do her nails and makeup for their wedding in a few weeks. I used to write a beauty/nails blog until I got a nasty case of breast cancer. All better now but haven't got back to it (yet).
Anyway, I agreed as I was so happy to be asked. However I'm now thinking; ' What if I fuck it up?' I've never made anyone else up before. It's a very casual affair; small wedding/christening and then a party back at my parents for about 80 (5 acres ) People are mostly camping, we and my SiL to be are Airbnb'ing it.
I have an overload of make-up and can sterilise brushes etc and I've asked her to bring her own foundation so no worries on supplies.
It's just the doing it that is panicking me now. Terrified I'll make her look too overdone (my usual look lol) or poke her in the eye with a spoolie. I've been researching on Pinterest and Instagram so I know what to do properly. Nails I can do in my sleep, but your face on your wedding day needs to be super special. No professional photographer thank god.

Has anyone else (who's not a professional) ever done this? Please calm me down.

Can you do a practice session or two, to see if your ideas match up to what she wants?

LanguidLobster · 08/09/2018 17:52

I was going to say practice runs as well.

Might be helpful if she can get hold to pics from magazines to show the look she wants

margaurette · 08/09/2018 17:53

Agree with PP - have a trial run so you can work out together what she likes, and you can have a practice run.

Presumably she knows your style? She's asked you because she like what you do!

Tell her you're nervous. Ask for a practice session (well ahead of time, so our can have a second one ifyou think you need it).

It'll both boost your confidence and give you a chance to explore the look she wants (and how long it'll take you to do it)

PandaPolarBear · 08/09/2018 18:19

Practice run on the bride if you can arrange it, ask a couple of friends over for an evening to practice on as an alternative. :)

Crunchymum · 08/09/2018 18:23

I am guessing there is a reason for no practice run, as that is the obvious solution.

MartyMcFly1984 · 08/09/2018 18:27

Not me, but my friend who wears make up did my other friends bridal makeup (this friend doesn’t usually wear any). They kept it simple, and it worked well. I think we were too young and naive to consider it going wrong.
But definately practice runs, and you’ll be fine.

And when you do the practice run that everyone else has suggested, take photos as well to make sure they are going to look good on the day as well.

Fadingmemory · 08/09/2018 18:35

Have a session with her in which you discuss her ideas. Then, she can apply the kind of style/ colours she wants for the day. After, she can remove all the “slap” and you can have as many tries as it takes until she is happy. You can make notes & discuss as you go. Worth a try perhaps.

Babysharkdoodoodoodo · 08/09/2018 18:38

I'm in the Midlands and she's in the Smoke so practice not practical and I have no friends (sob). I'll practice on myself but adjust colours. She's a gorgeous English Rose and I'm a mishmash (olive) but I can get the brow technique tidied up, I guess, with a smidge of contouring.
I'm going with UD Naked palettes and a Tarte complexion kit so I can't go too wrong, I guess. No eyeliner wings though as that would be too harsh and she just needs a little enhancing.

Got to figure out logistics as well, as we're staying in different villages and I don't drive. I'll have to change first I suppose and get DH to fetch me. :/

I did my best friends wedding make up and have never done it professionally. She rarely wears any and I always do. She looked amazing if I do say so myself we talked about styles before hand and I did one practice run on her first as she also lives miles away.

nutellanom · 08/09/2018 19:22

I did my friends make up. To be fair she didn't want much and just a natural look. We practised the night before the wedding. And it all went really well!
