If MN banned swearing would you leave?

I have no inside info. Just pondering really.

OP posts:

No, I am not a sweary person so it wouldn't make any difference.

Mamaryllis · 07/09/2018 20:24

No opinion. Only clicked on the link to read the reams of invective that we’re guaranteed. Smile

pointythings · 07/09/2018 20:26

I would absolutely fucking flounce. And I never swear. Grin

RosiesYellowDress · 07/09/2018 20:27

No but it would be time consuming deciphering what word has been out.

Btw those that replace swear word with things like ‘fudge cake, fiddlesticks’ in sentence you still ducking swearing in my eyes!

ILoveDolly · 07/09/2018 20:27

I like a well timed swear. MN wouldn't be the same without it

RosiesYellowDress · 07/09/2018 20:29

Dam you autocorrect! Should know by now 🦆 has no place in my vocabulary

Butterymuffin · 07/09/2018 20:29

Can't see it happening if only because, as a pp said, it would be no end of extra work to enforce. But if they did, it's their forum, their rules, innit?

RosiesYellowDress · 07/09/2018 20:31

( * * * ). Ffs it would never work as mumsnet doesn’t recognise the four

It’s missing from my post

Babysharkdododo · 07/09/2018 20:32

Another site I'm on has a filter which automatically changes swear words to something else. So shit becomes kittens etc. If anything it makes the swearing funnier tbf.
It also makes it very easy to identify regulars vs trolls passing through, despite all the name changing. And they don't try very hard - sh1t would get past the filter no problem.

Longdistance · 07/09/2018 20:32

Fuck, yes. I’d be off...

M3lon · 07/09/2018 20:34

I wouldn't leave so much as get banned about 3 milliseconds after the rule change.

Dowser · 07/09/2018 20:36

Would really miss it.
I swear loads in real life . I love a good fuck and I love this site because I don’t have to watch what I write
I ring it quite hard to write on other sites to be honest.
Of the 6 adults in my family, me and my two kids swear the most..the grandkids hardly swear at all.

I don’t think I swear that much to be honest.

Dowser · 07/09/2018 20:37

It’s what makes mumsnet special ❤️❤️❤️

RippleEffects · 07/09/2018 20:38

Increased censorship on the site recently has significantly reduced my usage and interest. I dont think mumsnet'd ban swearing though, there's no big highly funded anti-swear campaign trying to restrict free speech.

AnnieAnoniMoose · 07/09/2018 20:38

Yes. Not because I couldn’t swear, but because it would mean a fundamental change to the site. If I wanted Fluffy Huns I know where I can find them, I don’t, I want less fluff, more fuck.

Besides, they’d have to do away with AIBU & Relationships, or lose 80% of the posters. There are far too many cf’s & wankbadgers to post without swearing 🤷🏻‍♀️🤬

KlutzyDraconequus · 07/09/2018 20:41

Fuck knows.
I don't fucking swear that cunting much on this fucking site any fucking way tbh.
I use the occasionally cocking profanity but not that arsing often.

Monny1 · 07/09/2018 20:42

No

Dowser · 07/09/2018 20:45

Funnily enough
I’m not a lover of swearing on tv

( pulls Mary whitehouse knickers right up tight)
I prefer to swear at the tv 😂

Justabadwife · 07/09/2018 20:46

I came over from the dark side (the other parenting forum with a similar name) if you haven't been over there, it's all very hun and fluffy with a ban on swearing. Pisses me right off.
I don't know where id go if we got a swearing ban. Might make my own forum, full of people that know how to give a fuck.

delphguelph · 07/09/2018 20:46

Would I duck

LanguidLobster · 07/09/2018 20:47

No, although it's almost de rigeur to use a judicious swear word on here.

Grammarist · 07/09/2018 20:47

Yes

delphguelph · 07/09/2018 20:48

I HATE it when people put instead of the word. Like anyone gives a shit

Drives me bananarama

InfiniteCurve · 07/09/2018 20:49

Probably. Not because I want to swear, but because I value the level of freedom on MN to say what you want to say,and to be treated like an adult.
That's what makes the site what it is.
