Referred to breast clinic after GP visit today.

I'm blinking terrified. I felt a lump in the shower this morning and instantly knew it wasn't normally there. I have naturally quite lumpy boobs but this just feels not right. I managed to get a sit and wait GP appointment this afternoon which was great, and the upshot was the GP felt it too and referred me to the clinic with an urgent appointment for next Wednesday.

I've just recently had a growth removed from my tongue (benign) and this has just sent my already sky-high anxiety through the roof. What I'd like to know is, what's your experience of breast clinic appointments? What do they do there? Will I get a definitive diagnosis on the day? I'm really so, so scared. My husband and daughter can't come with me, my sister is trying to get the time off to accompany me, but I'm not hopeful. I know I need to grow up but it's easier said than done.

Gosh, that's a garbled mess!

I’ve been referred three times.

Each time the results came on the same day.

And each time there was an innocuous explanation, so I wish the same for you.

My experience is that things have been slightly different for different women on the long running thread over in General Health.
When I went, I was warned I could be there up to 3 hours, as they were going to do a series of different tests and assessment, but it was actually a lot less time than that. Can't remember everything but there was a mammogram, and a biopsy, sorry, can't remember what else - it is some time ago. Go free of deoderant or talc, for the mammogram.
I went on my own - all the staff were lovely, and understand you are nervous.
I then had 2 weeks wait as they had to send off cells they took in the biopsy to the lab.
What you need to know is something like 9 out of 10 lumps they see do not turn out to be cancerous, and, if they do turn out to be cancerous, breast cancer has a very high cure rate.

Oh, and how wonderful is the NHS, that you can go from first feeling that lump this morning to actually being seen at the clinic just on Wednesday, all for no cost. No wonder the rest of the world are so envious.

I know you are anxious, but try to take some deep breaths and relax a bit over the weekend, as, honestly, all the odds are with you.

Thank you for your responses. @BackforGood I am absolutely astounded and so grateful the NHS works as it does. Despite its current challenges it is still a world class organisation.
