Camping - first time - advice please!

Hello!

Going camping this weekend - one night only. It's my first time. I've got a tent, blow up mattresses and we'll take duvets. There'll be a fire pit. And I've sorted good. But I don't know what else I need to take. Presumably we'll be cold and need warm pjs and socks. What else do I need? Would really value your experience. Thank you

If you've got yoga mats or similar take those for under the blowup mattress - you'd be amazed how cold they get without a layer between them and the ground!

I always appreciate a pillow! Torch for toilet trips at night and a bog roll! Easily prepared snacks!

Put more clothes on before you get cold, once you are cold - it is miserable!

welly boots as the ground will be damp in the evening/first thing in the morning.
More layers than you think you'll need. I was cold at night when camping back in July.

Hot water bottle!!!! Usually taps in the loos are hot enough for this. Easy slip on slip off shoes for the loos. 5 million extra jumpers (if you are me you sometimes end up with them all on) battery fairy lights... Nicer than a giant light at night with fire pit. And vodka. Lots of. Warm with cordial. Have fun!

my husband took me camping once..... we dont have any camping stuff now :D

Titsywoo · 07/09/2018 09:05

Yikes. I like camping but you haven't picked the best time of year!

Bullnoway · 07/09/2018 09:08

Hahaha... excellent replies. Thank you.

Timing is out of my control, so I'm just going with it in a very zen manner. Many, many jumpers; torches; fairy lights; hot water bottle and booze. Think that covers the bases! Grin

A rug under your blow up bed so it doesn't get cold.

Get ready for bed earlier in the evening so you're getting into bed warm rather than stripping off at 11pm into your pjs. So out your pjs on and some outer layers at say 7pm and just take off the outer layers before you get into bed.

Definitely easy to take on and off shoes.

It's getting a bit nippy, I'd consider taking a hot water bottle for your feet.

Glad I found this thread, me and DH are also going camping overnight tomorrow, we have got 4 blankets/rugs plus sleeping bag and he is on about taking the duvet as well. which is all well and good if I was to stay at a normal temp all night but being in the midst of menopause sweats I may overheat while he is moaning that hes froze Grin

serbska · 07/09/2018 10:38

Take the right attitude and enough warm clothes and you'l be fine :-)

I'd take a few blankets/throws - you can wrap them around you if you'e sitting out by the campfire, use them in bed etc. I woudl 100% have a blanket over the airbed (as well as duvet and blanket over you) because the airbeds get cold.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 07/09/2018 10:39

Make your sleeping bag into singles.
SO OOOOO much warmer.
Sorry dh!

Largepiecesofcrookedwood · 07/09/2018 10:46

If you can get hold of them, those foil blankets that you use for hypothermia victims are amazing under the air bed.
Agree with keeping warm, but be aware that if you overheat and sweat, the sweat then chills on your skin as the temperature drops which is why you shouldn't sleep in your day clothes, no matter how cold you are.

Spongeface · 09/09/2018 01:00

Sounds like you will be sorted. Hope you enjoy!

If you will be cooking or taking snacks then a pack of paper plates saves on washing up.

GloGirl · 09/09/2018 13:59

How did you get on? Xx
