Roof of mouth is so sore

Anyone know what I can use to numb the roof of my mouth.
It has been sore for a week, I don't think it's ulcers (unless it's one big one) but it actually feels furry ( it's the only way I can describe it!

I've been using corsodyl toothpaste and mouthwash and putting bonjela on but it's not getting better... any advice?

Daktarin gel? Have you got oral thrush?

numptynuts · 06/09/2018 22:16

Can you see inside? Get someone to take a pic with flash?

I did when I had a horrendously sore mouth. Went to GP next day and diagnosed shingles. Nothing would touch the pain.

It looks like clusters on the roof of the mouth, one side.

Can you see anything, white patches, spots, blister or redness.

If you cant get a gp appointment and cant afford a dentist, go and ask your local pharmacist to have a look.

CherryPavlova · 06/09/2018 22:20

Difflam mouthwash is very good.

BraayTigger · 06/09/2018 22:26

Try some good old salt water gargling, followed by warm honey and lemon drink.

Not sure will have much impact but you never know. Then go to the docs.

Hope it clears soon and you feel better OP x

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'm off to the pharmacy soon so will ask him to have a look.
I've tried getting into the dentist ( actually was willing to just pay whatever amount to be seen) but I can't get an appointment for 2 weeks

Any joy?

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 07/09/2018 17:37

I think b12 deficiency can cause this too if you want to look into that ?

Bombardier25966 · 07/09/2018 17:41

Furry sounds like thrush. Oddest feeling! If it is that the pharmacist should be able to tell, if not they can suggest what to do next.

frogsoup · 07/09/2018 17:42

I feel your pain, I've had exactly the same issue this week! Two-hourly salt water wash (stings like buggery but at least you know it's doing some good!) and corsodyl gel (not toothpaste, it's usually behind the counter at the chemist so you have to ask for it) three times a day and it's finally getting better.

Heatherjayne1972 · 07/09/2018 18:02

Get it checked out by your dentist
If you haven’t already
Loads of things it could be

Heatherjayne1972 · 07/09/2018 18:03

Sorry just seen that you tried the dentist already

Tell them you’re in a lot of pain and need to be seen ASAP - they should have some ‘in pain ‘ appointments

PutYourShirtOnMartin · 07/09/2018 18:05

Are you feeling under the weather?

I had a really painful roof of mouth and it was bloody hand foot and mouth!!!

Was laid up for two weeks. Never felt so ill ( and I have had pneumonia)

Sandstormbrewing · 07/09/2018 18:16

I occasionally get hundreds (well loads) of tiny tiny, pin prick size ulcers on the roof of my mouth. Eating marmite tends to help but I haven't had an episode since my thyroid was sorted!
