Colours for babies

Not sure if this is the right place for this. Couldn’t find anywhere else to post.
I make baby clothes and would like to know what colours mums prefer. Are there ‘in’ colours? Do mums still like baby colours, pale pink, blue, lemon etc?
Thanks for your help

There’s plenty of pale blue and pink baby stuff in shops.

Wouldnt going round shops to look at the colours of the baby clothes answer questions about popular colours and “in” colours though?

I'd love grey, apricot, peach, lilac, taupe. I've been given lots of classic blue and pink for my boy and girl twins and while it's lovely to receive presents, I'd love more variety of colors. Also maybe a less candyish pink, less powder blue would be a good twist on the conventional.

Bright and bold. I have a baby DD and hate that the 'boys' clothes are so varied but girls is mostly pink, white and lemon. For autumn red, mustard, green and chocolatey brown are lovely.

Thank you all. That’s really helpful.
hopegarden thanks for the suggestion but I don’t live near any baby shops or I would have done that. I did do some online research and a lot of the shops had muted colours blues, pinks etc.
So I thought I would ask Mums directly

@balljuggla it's wierd, but i've got a son and i always think the girls have much more choice than the boys! Grin

For boys there is a lot of blue and green and i get very bored! They tend to be quite bright which can sometimes make them hard to mix and match. When he was a baby i really liked stuff that was white but had a little pattern all over.

I don't really like stuff that tries to make babies and toddlers look like tiny teenagers either.

kaytee87 · 06/09/2018 18:15

I like newborns in white and cream then after a few months in nice bright colours; turquoise, mustard, red, bright blue, lime green, burgundy. I don't really like baby blue.

Greys are beautiful :)

SnuggyBuggy · 06/09/2018 18:23

I like to dress my DD in a wide variety of colours and buy from both the girls and boys section.

I like bright colours and unisex patterns for babies. I had 3 dcs of both sexes and was able to use hand me downs - so cute seeing them in things the older ones had worn as babies!

I didn’t find out if they were boys or girls before they were born and decorated their rooms in unisex colours.

DS1 had an orange room with lions, zebras and tigers etc on the walls, bought brightly coloured clothes to match. Red, orange, turquoise etc

DS2 had a pale blue and orange room with Koi carp on the walls, he had hand me down clothes from DS1 plus, as an autumn baby, a lot of neutral and brown/fairisle type knits, which then went on to DD.

DD had a black and white room with red accents and wore a lot of those colours too. Also navy blue, bright pink (hate pale pink and it didn’t suit her complexion) and bold prints from Pumpkin Patch.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 06/09/2018 18:25

If I had a baby now I’d buy from Leopard Spots Baby on Facebook, she makes some really beautiful things.

DastardlyAndMuttley · 06/09/2018 18:26

I love lemon and mint green but couldn't find anything in those colours for baby dgc.

Dodie66 · 06/09/2018 18:50

Ooooh thank you all. Lots of lovely suggestions there.
Do you prefer cardigans, jackets or jumpers? I used to find jumpers were harder to get on
Also are booties and socks still used.
You can tell it’s a long time since I had babies 🙂

The more traditional style clothes are back in fashion, especially for baby boys at the moment. Baby blue and white

SnuggyBuggy · 06/09/2018 19:00

I like cardigans, I often put one on DD quickly before we go out

GrumbleBumble · 06/09/2018 19:05

I loved my little one in rainbow brights. He looked great and I'm sure it was more visually stimulating for him than being in pastel blue from head to toe. I hate pink and wouldn't have dressed a daughter in it if I'd had one but judging by the number of "here's my baby wearing a pink vest, pink babygro, pink hat, pink cardigan and pink shoes on a pink blanket with a pink teddy" photos I see I'm most definitely in a minority.

villainousbroodmare · 06/09/2018 19:26

Cardigans for sure. Jumpers are harder to take on and off esp when a baby is going for naps every hour or two, and hoodies are worse and so bulky around the back of the neck.

anotherangel2 · 06/09/2018 19:31

Cardigan and socks yes but I never used booties.

I hate girls in pink and boys in blue.

scrivette · 06/09/2018 19:31

If you do any for older children then it's really hard to find nice bright colours or light blues for boys from 2 onwards.
I love my boys in pale blue cardigans and jumpers but can't find any, luckily my Mum knits.
Once a boy is 2 the colours seem so dull/sludgy.
