Any vet nurses on here?

I'm thinking of training to be a veterinary nurse, but have no idea how to go about it. I've tried looking on the internet and understand that there is a three year degree or diploma route, but that's about all I know! I wouldn't be able to go to university to study as I have a young child.

Would I be able to get any financial help whilst studying? And how could I go about getting some info?

TIA Smile

I’m interested in this too for my dd. She is in school at the moment in year 9. What should she be aiming to achieve, best subjects for a level?

You can do a degree but I believe you still need to secure a placement in a training practice. I was employed by a training practice and went to college one day a week. I got paid and work paid for the college course. I know others who went down the degree route so had debt but the end result was the same. Or I know a few who couldn't get a placement so ended up with a degree but not actually a veterinary nurse at the end of it. It's hard to find a placement and I believe It is 3 years at college part time now

There's an option to do the diploma as an apprentice. Basically you work in a training practice as a student VN and go to college on a block release basis, usually in 2 week blocks. This was the only route to vet nursing before the diploma and degree routes came into force. The training practice usually pay your college fees.
