Anyone else find that dealing with hospitals is more stressful than having a chronic illness in the first place?

I don't even have the energy to explain what happened yesterday or this post would be very, very long. But I'm sick of being shoved from pillar to post, constantly having to leave phone messages that are rarely returned, fighting tooth and nail to get an appointment, sitting in A&E all day (I was there for nine hours yesterday) only to be sent home with nothing, making more pleading phone calls today, phoning a manufacturer who have apparently been having manufacturing problems for over a year with the one medication I really need, they can't do anything. The stress of it all is making me even more ill. We keep hearing about people going to A&E too much but if the department who are supposed to be looking after me are going to keep ignoring me, what else can I do? My GP can't do anything either. And no, I don't have the energy to start writing complaints to PALS, they never do anything anyway. Far too much stress going on at the moment and it's making my health worse. If I typed out everything in full I'd be here all day. I don't have the energy right now.

I hear you.
Stress is very bad for me.
Dealing with hospital appointments is very stressful.
I have to ring PALS again today and I just can't face it.

I had to take my hospital to the high court to get treatment and won. They’re now suing me for legal costs!

Leavesofautumn · 06/09/2018 13:58

Good for you. I wish I had the energy. I just want to get some medication and go home.

I’m sorry you’re not feeling well and hope you’re feeling better soon. It is exhausting. Btw, the drug you need isn’t hiprex is it? Just wondering as I’m on that and the manufacturers have been having supply problems for a year now. My local pharmacist is quite good at trying to get me some but I had three months of no meds earlier as couldn’t get it anywhere.

I've just been back to the hospital and been given some other stuff. I really hope I'll not allergic to it as I have been allergic to things in the past. I won't be able to tell straight away as the allergic reactions in the past have only started after a few days. So I still can't relax.

The thing I really wanted isn't hiprex but it's something else that's not been mamufactured for a year now. I actually phoned the suppliers and they apologised but said there was nothing they could do.

I can't take any more stress.

And because I won't know until a few days I if I'm allergic to the new stuff or not, it means I won't be able to stop worrying until next week.

If I do turn out to not tolerate this new stuff, it won't be just that. It'll involve trying to go back to the hospital yet again and trying to get yet something else. So much stress.
