DD persistent nausea and stomach cramps

Not sure what to do. Wondered if anyone had experienced similar.

DD is 13. For the last 6 weeks she’s had intermittent feelings of nausea with indigestion, abdominal cramps/pains, belching and hiccups. It started with 2 days of nausea. We then went on holiday (UK) where low level symptoms continued before she came down with a vomiting bug and fever. Since then (a few weeks ago) the symptoms are there some days and not others.

I’m sure some of it is related to anxiety (I have IBS) but not all. When the symptoms disappear she is a happy child, busy, popular, does well at school, enjoys school.

I’ve taken to the GP twice, bloods and abdo exam normal. Not constipated, no weight loss, diarrhoea, blood in stool. Pregnancy test neg (not sexually active). She looks well. Gaviscon helps sometimes, as does having her bowels open.

I was going to push for her to have stool tests. Symptoms fit with Helicobacter but do children have symptoms from that like adults do?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi OP,

Sorry to hear your daughter is feeling this way.

I suffered from very similar symptoms, and was eventually diagnosed with gastritis, after an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Once diagnosed, it was treated quickly.

I was also suffering with stress and anxiety during that time, which explained the cramping (they were concerned about stomach ulcers)

Obviously, it could be a range of other things, but just wanted to give you my experience. I hope you find out what it is soon Flowers

Thank you. Yes it fits with gastritis, am just wondering what’s causing it. Just frustrated that it’s lasted so long.

Mine was a stress trigger. I'm no medical expert of course...you mentioned anxiety in your OP, could possibly be related to that. And would explain how the symptoms come and go (mine did too)

Thing is she definitely had a stomach bug (had a fever). But the symptoms just didn’t resolve. Anxiety definitely makes them worse but I don’t think is the cause,
