Bloodybridget · 04/09/2018 22:24

If you don't get a lot of replies here, try reposting on Scotsnet, people there are very helpful.

Wigtown is great if you like second hand bookshops!

FoodGloriousFud · 04/09/2018 22:25

Sorry should have said it's just my husband and I.

Longest zip wire in Europe at Lagan Outdoor! Other activities available too - do you have dc?

Lots of mountain biking

The Gem and Rock museum at Creetown is interesting on a wet day. They have a good cafe too.

ShesABelter · 04/09/2018 22:27

Go to loch doon with your walking boots and a picnic it's fab.

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2018 22:27

Robert Burns centre in Dumfries usually has something interesting on

MsAwesomeDragon · 04/09/2018 22:28

Cocoa bean chocolate factory is a lovely place to go.

Depending on the ages of your DC, the Dino park at hetland can keep my 8yo amused for a day.

YerAWizardHarry · 04/09/2018 22:28

Portpatrick is beautiful

Awrite · 04/09/2018 22:28

Kippford is lovely. A beach made of shells. Cracking pub too.

FoodGloriousFud · 04/09/2018 22:32

@Awrite Kippford looks gorgeous! What's the pub you recommend?

Awrite · 04/09/2018 22:35

A white one along the front. Kippford Inn?? Can't remember but we had a great pub lunch there. Definitely a pub rather than a restaurant.

FoodGloriousFud · 04/09/2018 22:36

That's sounds perfect for one of ours days out, thank you!

I love the Rhins Peninsula. The Mull of Galloway lighthouse has stunning views, Portpatrick is a really pretty town to visit, The Mariners in Drummore does awesome seafood and the Logan Fishpond is an interesting experience. The beach at Port Logan is good for beachcombing and the nearby botanic gardens are fab too. We've also stayed at GG's as mentioned by a PP.
The accommodation at Laggan Outdoor is fab (we weren't brave enough for the Land Rover-powered slingshot thing) and we ate at a tiny but really good Chinese restaurant called the Seahorse in Dalbeattie on our way there from the M74.

nervousseacreature · 04/09/2018 22:39

Cream o Galloway is good for ice cream if you’re adults (who like ice cream!)
Just down the road is Carrick shore, beautiful beach with an island. Mossyard beach is gorgeous too.

Always like a look st the shops in Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas

Cairn Holy is a good walk if you like historical sites. Threave gardens are beautiful or take the boat out to Threave Castle.

Dundrennan Abbey, Sweetheart Abbey, Caerlaverock Castle all worth a visit.

There’s an RSPB place near Dumfries if you’re into birds. Galloway Forest Park is lovely (try Raiders Road and Clatteringshaws) and is a Dark Sky Park so you could get amazing views on a clear night.

We enjoyed the Crawick Multiverse which is a huge installation www.crawickmultiverse.co.uk

It's truly beautiful

Laggan Outdoor is well worth a visit. The zip wire is brilliant (worth paying for 2 goes) and their accommodation looks lovely.

epicclusterfuck · 04/09/2018 22:48

Logan Botanic Garden and the red kite feeding station near Castle Douglas both worth visiting. Kirkcudbright is lovely too.

epicclusterfuck · 04/09/2018 22:52

Also smokehouses, think we had a meal at Carsluith Castle

BikeRunSki · 04/09/2018 22:54

Drumlanrig Castle, if you like big old houses and gardens.

MervynBunter · 05/09/2018 00:13

Bookshops in Wigtown - especially Scotland's largest. Caerlaverock Castle if you like ancient buildings. Marbury Smokehouse and Kilnford Farm Shop if your'e a foodie. Gatehouse of Fleet just 'cos it's a nice place (use the Masonic Arms is my advice) and the Stewartry Museum in Kirkcudbright. There also the "dark sky" areas where (clouds permitting) you can see stars by the million. It's my favourite part of Scotland.

babyboomersrock · 05/09/2018 00:32

A white one along the front. Kippford Inn??

Probably The Anchor - lovely cosy pub, good food.

Potcallingkettle · 05/09/2018 00:36

Cream of Galloway - so much more than an ice cream place. Activities all suitable for adults too - great fun.

DoryNow · 05/09/2018 00:40

Another vote for Drumlanrig Castle, lovely walks around the estate & a fab tea rooms ( not been for a few years but sure there'll still be one!)
