Would you let your 14 year old go to an aquarium on their own?

DD really wants to go to the aquarium, she'll have to get a quick train there. Would you allow it? Alone?

Yes

RJnomore1 · 03/09/2018 21:29

Why would I not?

ninnypoo · 03/09/2018 21:29

I would imagine any 14yo sensible enough to want to go to the aquarium is probably sensible enough to go alone.

Yes. Though I'm assuming you mean a fairly local one and not say a trip to SeaWorld!

WisestIsShe · 03/09/2018 21:30

Yes, of course.

chipsandgin · 03/09/2018 21:30

Yes, why wouldn’t you?

Rednaxela · 03/09/2018 21:30

Are you sure she is really going to the aquarium?

I was a lying little sod at 14 Grin

dragonbally · 03/09/2018 21:31

She just turned 14 and doesn't usually want to go out, so I was just a bit unsure. Clearly it's fine and I'm sure she'll be very happy I said yes Smile

Why is she going by herself? Could she not invite a friend? Might be more enjoyable that way.

dragonbally · 03/09/2018 21:32

Well she's biology mad, specifically marine biology, so I'm pretty sure Grin

yes but i would be wondering why she wasn't taking a friend with her. unless all her friends hate fish?

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 03/09/2018 21:32

As long as she isn't taking a wet suit....

NC4Now · 03/09/2018 21:33

Ha, yes!! A nightclub I’d be a bit more cautious. She sounds lovely :)

Mum2jenny · 03/09/2018 21:33

Rednalexa so was I, but I don't think the youngsters of today are as devious.

dragonbally · 03/09/2018 21:35

I did mention a friend, but apparently she "won't be able to read all the information without being interrupted"

Fair enough, I used to live in the natural history museum during my teen years. Hope she has a good time!

Sellotapeandscissors · 03/09/2018 22:22

I think I would check the aquarium's website for any "children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult" rule, as it would be a shame for your daughter to get there then be turned away.

ThinkingCat · 03/09/2018 22:50

If she's sensible and knows not to go places with strangers and can phone you in an emergency and so on.

She sounds lovely and studious, so as long as she is also aware enough in a streetwise way.

Is she eh meeting a boy there?

Nacreous · 03/09/2018 22:54

I can definitely imagine my 14 year old self doing something like this - I still hate being unable to read all the signs at museums!
