... do you play digitally? And if so, what app/game/website do you use?

My 87-year-old mother-in-law, post-stroke, razor-sharp intelligence but debilitating dysphasia, plays every day, but the app she's using is rubbish and there is no option to choose the skill level of her opponent.

I'm not sure she can handle Words With Friends - what she needs, ideally, is an app that she can download and then access via a desktop shortcut, or something with a URL. The kind of thing that used to come in your OS package, like Minesweeper (I think that, pre-stroke, that's what she used to use).

Any suggestions would be gratefully received....

I play Scrabble obsessively on my tablet, its available as a Scrabble app on both Android and iphone. It lets you play at any level

My mum is nearly 85 and she plays Words with Friends on her tablet Shock

She needs something she can use on her PC (Windows 10); she doesn't use a tablet or phone.

Not tablet based and slightly off tangent, but if she likes Scrabble, has she tried Bananagrams? It is basically scrabble without the board and scoring system and uses tiles. Just a suggestion of something else she may enjoy.

Her vocabulary is enormous (which is very helpful for someone living with the after effects of a stroke); but her short term memory is buggered. She can't cope with lots of log ins, or passwords - she needs absolute basic functionality... but a really decent quality of opponent.

Thank you, LadyPenelope - she needs something she can play solo; she doesn't have visitors every day. But Bananagrams is a good idea for something we could do together on my weekly visit.

Hi OP, I've read your earlier comments - my nearly 89 year old mother thought she'd never get to grips with an iPhone but after my father died earlier this year, took the plunge and bought one. We all play Words With Friends with her - she has three games ongoing - and we just play when we can. It makes her feel less "alone", especially in the evenings, and is good for her mind too; like your mother, she's very sharp with a great vocabulary.

I really do think she would benefit from a tablet. Hm.... Maybe I should work on persuading her.....

Wordfeud is good but app-only.

Can you still play Scrabble from Facebook? You used to be able to - I was able to do it on laptop. You could play random strangers or people you knew via Facebook.

Two words with susie dent is great. Basically scrabble but you only have the last word that was played to work from.

I have the Scrabble app and play it regularly. I find the phone version too clumsy though so only ever play on my iPad. Paying for it ( I think it was a one off payment of about a fiver) also means you get no annoying adverts and it keeps s record of all your stats.
I think a tablet is definitely the way to go Wink
