Parking ticket for being on school markings outside restricted times

I will appeal it but interested to know what you all think. I parked on yellow school parking at 5pm. Restrictions are 8-4. The rest of the street is permit only 8-6 but the signs apply to the bays only and the bays are not extended to the school markings. Nor do they apply automatically to whole street as some short stay bays have separate restrictions on separate signs. No signs look like they apply to school markings other than the school marking 8-4 signs.

Are the yellow lines there to allow kids to enter/exit school safely?

Why did you park on yellow lines?

Kidssendingmenuts · 03/09/2018 18:54

I thought you could NEVER park on zig zag lines outside a school no matter the time and the restrictions are no stopping at those times on the lines even for drop off and pick up which as far as I know is illegal. What did the sign say exactly?

They aren’t yellow lines. They are zigzags with reductions during school hours of 8-4. And the only non permit spots on the street between 4 and 6.

Sorry if it's not zig zags but still double yellow lines are a no no.

Oh that is possible I suppose @Kidssendingmenuts though there is nothing to say you cannot park there outside those hours

Worth a shot appealing it though. Nothing to lose x

Sounds like you are correct OP.

If the intention was to have no parking at all, and no stopping at school hours, surely they’d have double yellows and kerb blips.

What does the Highway Code say? I always thought you could never park on zig zags, no matter what local restrictions re double yellows, residents parking etc said.

This appears to be the highway code that says do not stop or park near a school entrance, which I would have thought was defined by the zig zags.

Thanks @nacreous that is helpful. Have appealed so fingers’ crossed

No problem, fingers crossed (though I do agree with Barbara that I too would assume you could never park or even stop on zig zags)

But on the other side of the school is an unused entrance with zigzags AND a resident permit only sign whereas the side I parked has no resident permit only sign.
