PLEASE HELP!! My pugs won’t stop seeing in the house !!

I have 2 pugs (dolly & teddy) they are both rescues and got them in February!

They are lovely dogs apart from them weeping in the house.. my boyfriend literally hates them because all they do is pee and poo when we leave the room.

We leave them out their cage to have a run about with the back door OPEN so they can do our for weeks and poops whenever they need to. We come back in and there is wee and poo everywhere even tho the back foot is still wide open. I honestly don’t understand it and now they are having to stay in thier cage all day. We’ve tried EVERYTHING! ans nothing works.

I honestly believe they wee ans poo in the house out of spite and it is make me so angry now. Like they back door is open there’s no reason for them not to go out side.

Someone please help and tell me what to do! Ans why they do it! Because if they don’t stop soon they will be going back to the reigning centre.

Well done :) it sounds like you're making good progress. Sometimes it's hard to see the way to fix things when you're stuck in a situation and its been going on for so long, and it's easy to get frustrated and start to feel like they are doing it deliberately. Hopefully with a bit more work this will all be behind you.

Right these little dogs have had a lot of upsetting change in their short lives.

A house move will have been upsetting for them also.

Go back to basics.

They need to learn positive associations with going outside in the garden.

Play with them outside and reward massively when they do a wee or poo outside. It must be immediate and show them they made you happy.

Fern them outside as well, but don't lock them outside, ever. Be with them and build their confidence. If they think they're getting put out and can't get back in they will continue reluctance to go outside.

Walks, do you walk them regularly? Sadly many owners of these small breeds mistakingly believe that if they have access to a garden they don't need walks. Walking them 3 x 20 minutes a day will give them structure to their day and a good toilet routine. It will make them happier at home too.

If they are peeing as soon as the Crate is open then you need to lift them straight outside and reward.

Fern them outside = Feed them outside

My dog has been peeing on the floor lately.

Do you take them for walks? Leaving the door open is hardly a routine.

I walk mine first thing in the morning, she has a dog walker whilst I am at work, then I put her outside when I come home from work and I walk her every evening between 8pm and 8.30pm.

Routine is key.

Rewards when peeing whilst out for a walk. Take tasty treats with you.

They will learn.

Has the female been speyed? Because if she hasn't then she will piss rivers when in heat regardless how many times you take her out.

@ChipsNotDaddy @Failingat40 yes they get walked twice a day for 45 minuets as they are very hyper, energetic dogs

both of them are neutered.
And I always go in the garden with them and never shut the door on them alone outside

Cute! Then I am afraid you will have to go back to basics with toilet training them :( or see a vet, urinary infection?

Wolfiefan · 05/09/2018 18:21

UTI Is a possible issue.
And if they pee when left then so is separation anxiety.
You can't be in the lounge and shut them out. You need to be with them to watch for cues and take them out if they need to go.
