Incessant questions watching films with a 4 year old

Please tell me it's not just me... Every film, even those she's watched before I'm faced with a barrage of questions about the backstory. "Where's her mum?" "Are they married?" "What if the other man ran into the fire, would the girls cry?" (Greatest Showman), and on and on...

It's driving me mad.

I have 5 yo grandchildren that do this - and then tell me the plot! It’s fab and makes me smile. I especially like it when DGD jumps up and gets ready to sing and dance for her favourite parts of The Greatest Showman! 💝

I like watching films with her and she loves the greatest showman (soundtrack on repeat in the car) but the questions....

"If you listen, you'll find out the answer"
And repeat like a broken record Grin

I don't think they grow out of it - my daughter has always been like this and she's now 10 and no matter how often I say " We're watching exactly the same thing", "You would know if you weren't constantly talking", "I know as much as you do"... it never, never stops. It's a good job I love her.

Peregrane · 03/09/2018 13:39

It’s not just you :) but I have noticed my son asks the same questions over and again to see if he gets slightly different answers, so it’s a way for him to build a more complex world view. Looking at it that way, I don’t mind it at all.

usernotfound0000 · 03/09/2018 13:40

My 3.5 year old is the same. To the point I end up missing the film because we can't hear it over the questioning!

HiGunny · 03/09/2018 13:44

Yes my 5yo does this! And keeps asking what's going to happen next....eh I don't know I haven't seen it before!

Pancakepoop · 03/09/2018 13:47

Yes! 3 year old does this, not just with films but with EVERYTHING!

glamorousgrandmother · 03/09/2018 13:50

It's the joy of four year olds make the most of it. I really love that stage.

Vitalogy · 03/09/2018 13:53

This is how they learn. She sounds bright and intelligent. It'll be developing your patience too OP Wink

moleeye · 03/09/2018 13:58

Mine, mineeeee!

She's 3 (nearly 4) it's constant. "Why are they getting married, do they love each other, who's the baddie, are they going to die"

It. Is. Endless!!!

I love it, but it is exhausting 😂

Jellycatspyjamas · 03/09/2018 14:09

5 and 7 here and they do it constantly... drives me nuts and warms my heart in equal measure.

Yoksha · 03/09/2018 14:15

My 18yr old grandson does this. This thread has put a Grin on my face. It's infuriating.

I do this Blush DP refuses to watch TV if I am in the room now Sad

WinkysTeatowel · 03/09/2018 17:56

Glad it's not just us and really hoping she will grown out of it!

CheeseAndOnionIceCream · 03/09/2018 18:41

Sounds like my late DM! It wasn't just films though,it was everything that was on TV,from soaps to documentaries. It was 'Who's that woman? I don't recall seeing her before', or 'Where's her husband, I haven't seen him for ages' or the most frequent one 'What did she just say? She's mumbling again' . put your hearing aid in mum. Started to drive me mad as I was missing half the programme because I was constantly answering her questions! Eventually my DD said to her 'Grandma,if you actually listened to the programme instead of keeping talking over it,you wouldn't have to keep asking questions!' Grin

WinkysTeatowel · 03/09/2018 18:47

Vitalogy it's pretty cute now (although driving me mad) but I really don't want her to still be doing it at 14!
