Tips for being in pot.

ofcoursehesthefuckingfarmer · 03/09/2018 07:45

I have a wrist fracture and am now in pot. Right arm and of course I'm right handed.
Feel totally useless ATM, can't drive, still sore so can't get comfy on a night and need DH to wash my hair and fasten my bra!

Any tips to make life easier please? How do I keep my sanity?! I'm bored already!

In terms of sleep i was comfier on the sofa because i could prop my arm on a pillow against the back of the sofa so.it didnt move around, alternatively try building a pillow cage, under and around your arm.

Not a lot you can do about losing the use of your dominant arm for a while. It sucks.but you have to.persevere with not using it to allow it to heal.

You can buy waterless shampoo online which helps between real.washes for a few weeks and is easier 1 handed.

Thanks may try the sofa tonight, the lack of sleep is killing me.

Will also get some of that shampoo, my hair is not good!

Have you got one of those waterproof things for keeping your arm dry when you're washing? I think mine was made by LimbO, it meant I could shower myself and didn't have to rely on anyone else. You get the hang of washing and drying your hair one handed.

ofcoursehesthefuckingfarmer · 03/09/2018 10:53

No I've been using a tesco bag . Will get on Amazon.

Btw I didn't undo my bra when I took it off. I pulled the straps down and wriggled out of it. Pulled and wriggled back into them in the morning. It works best with your oldest, stretchiest bras, don't bother with nice new ones.

The sleeping thing was a pain but I found a pillow or cushion worked well at first. After a while I started sleeping on my front with no pillows at all.

MrsMozart · 03/09/2018 10:55

Keep it raised - swelling is a bugger in a cast.

Ditto PP about a waterproof cover.

Use technology - audio books, Kindle, speech recognition (for notes or the start of that best seller you always wanted to write).

Finger movement - if possible and if medics ok it.

Work out what household things you can do left handed and don't fret about the stuff you can't do.

Sleep - try lying a pillow flat lengthways down your bod and rest your arm on it.

iklboo · 03/09/2018 10:57

Could you get a couple of those sports type bras that you just pull on rather than fasten?

ofcoursehesthefuckingfarmer · 03/09/2018 11:01

I'm very large of nork so need proper bras, would love to go braless but school run starts again tomorrow.

You might get more tips if you ask MN to change your thread title slightly, as pot seems to be a regional term (I thought your thread was about drugs!)

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 03/09/2018 11:21

Yes to a limbO cast protector- they are wonderful and come very quickly! buy yourself a long handled bath scrubby on a stick and rest arm so wrist is elevated- pillows are your friend, prop yourself up as much as you dare- the position used for a sling (arm across chest with hand at neck) is rather comfy- and dont be afraid to go to hairdresser for a really good hair wash- they do it for lots of people for lots of reasons and there's no point feeling grotty when you already must feel pretty pants. Wishing you a speedy recovery 💐

sashh · 03/09/2018 11:32

Get your most comfy bra on and sleep in it.

FlibbertyGiblets · 03/09/2018 11:36

Yes to hairdresser for a wash and blow dry.

Yes to a limbo.

You're probably best not taking heavy-duty painkillers with being on mummy duty but do keep taking otc painkillers to avoid breakthrough pain.

Poor you.

Loubilou09 · 03/09/2018 11:40

What does "in pot" mean?? Baffled....

maggycool · 03/09/2018 11:43

I think the OP means in 'POP' - plaster of Paris.

MrsPatmore · 03/09/2018 11:44

Find a very cheap hairdresser for a blow dry. Maybe a Mobìle one? Can partner/kids help with putting on a bra? Tshirts/pull up elastic trousers/skirts are your friend! Microwave meals and ready prepared veg as it may be difficult to handle saucepans/pots?

Ifailed · 03/09/2018 11:45

I've heard 'pot' to mean plaster class before, but I agree it is regional, but I can't remember where I heard it!

MrsMozart · 03/09/2018 11:49

I've always known it as 'pot'. Lived all over the country.

How are you today OP?

guiltynetter · 03/09/2018 11:54

i also thought this thread was going to be about drugs! i’ve only ever heard it referred to as a cast.

guiltynetter · 03/09/2018 11:54

or in plaster!

ofcoursehesthefuckingfarmer · 03/09/2018 12:26

Sorry for confusing everyone its known as in pot round here or also a cast. Not about drugs!

Good idea re hairdressers, once kids are back to school I'll do that. DD is being a star, just made me my dinner bless her.
