What do you eat?

DH and I have reached a point where we really want to change our lifestyles. We have joined a gym but need to change our diet too. Can anyone give me an idea of what they typically eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner please?

Porridge
Feta salad
Pasta or rice based tea, usually with chicken but also have steak, or a roast, cottage pie etc make everything from scratch and don't buy ready meals or processed food really

Fruit /yogurt/ popcorn for snacks
Odd biscuit

Gym 3 times a week

It's 80% diet, 20% exercise if you want to lose weight.

PurpleDaisies · 02/09/2018 18:13

I eat pretty much the same as before I went to the gym regularly. I joined for fitness not for weight loss though. Mostly healthy, some junk.

I wonder if you might be better posting in weight loss chat if you’re looking for that sort of advice?

Yes Fish, that's why I am after advice about what people eat.

I don't think we eat too badly to be honest. Too much bread and too many snacks are our main problem.

Purpledaisies, I was going to post there but have never had much response before.

I do weight lifting and do macro tracking. I eat a lot (2000 cals) and aim for 130g of protein. I'm not bothered about whether the rest is carbs or fats. I want to build muscle though.

Thanks langkaw

Depends what it is I want to do when I boxed it was -
Breakfast
Porridge with some honey in
Mid morning snack
race cakes
Lunch
Chicken Salad with low fat dressing or no dressing
Afternoon snack
Courgetti and pesto (or something similar no carbs)
Dinner
Usually Fish (of some kind) veg and small portion of carbs.

Essentially I would start off no carbs and add more the more weight I lost. But this completely changed when I was just going gym to add muscle and lose fat, it was more protein and carbs but at certain times and better off having smaller portions but more meals.

I don’t tend to eat breakfast.

Lunch is normally quinoa salad with pomegranate seeds, pepper and chicken. Sometimes a normal green salad with chicken and/or feta.

Dinner tends to be toast, peanut butter on toast, cheese on toast, eggs on toast. I need to sort my evening meals out but need something quick before gym classes.

Dad28 · 02/09/2018 18:42

It depends what you want to achieve really if it’s just lose a bit of weight and gain fitness you don’t have to be nearly as strict. Aim to go gym for an hour 3-4 times a week and have try not to eat junk during the week but allow your self a treat in moderation on a Saturday and you will see a difference.

NicoAndTheNiners · 02/09/2018 18:42

If I want a snack it will be a banana, apple, sometimes one of those individual trifle pots.

Tetri · 02/09/2018 18:46

BG2015 I want to be like you when I grow up 😂

hidinginthenightgarden · 02/09/2018 18:57

Thanks ladies!
Being at the gym rather than sat at home should in itself help change our eating habits as I eat out of boredom not hunger. I also expect we won't be wanting big meals when we get home at 8pm either.
I don't really like cheese so that cuts out most dairy for me (don't drink much milk either) but I do eat too much bread.

You need to be mentally prepared for post exercise hunger!

Dad28 · 03/09/2018 09:52

Also if you want to burn fat drink as much water as humanely possible
