Is West Side Story the best musical ever?

I just switched the telly on as it was starting. I’m sniffing already! I was listening to Elaine Paige this morning when she played a song from Blood Brothers and I was it bits doing my ironing!!! I haven’t seen many but I just adore West Side Story and B.B’s comes second.

Hamilton, nothing else is even close.

I did enjoy WSS but it all seemed to flash by too quickly- got to the end and I felt I needed to see it all again to appreciate it properly.

It's obs Hamilton... i loved many other musicals until I saw it and for me its head and shoulders above.

Guys and Dolls at the Royal Exchange in Manchester last Christmas was amazing.

Barnum with Michael Crawford was the best live musical I have ever seen.

blood Brothers i’ve Seen the most.

Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, singing in the Rain, etc - all great music.

And Oklahoma.

Yep to Barnum too but no no no to Blood Brothers. Cheesy, too often repeated tunes.

I couldn't decide on one all time best musical ever, but West Side Story has got to be near the top. Bernstein was a brilliant composer.

There's a podcast called Best Pick that discusses Oscar winning films. Episode 10 was all about West Side Story. There's another really good podcast called Unspooled that discusses the films in the AFI's list of top 100 American films, but that hasn't got onto West Side Story yet.
