Anyone use SMOL laundry capsules?

Just as it says above really! I keep seeing them advertised on Facebook but no idea what the fuss is about, cost etc. Their website doesn’t tell you anything much (presumably until you sign up!)

I've been using them for a few months, I think they're really good value, wash well and it's convenient. However I've actually just cancelled my account (which was easy to do with no fuss) as DD and i are both struggling with itchy skin so I'm trying to rule it out. Not certain it is the capsules causing it (I have some major skin problems anyway so it's not unusual for me to struggle with things) and if I do find out they're not the cause I'll go back to them

I was looking at this earlier and like you interested in the actual cost.

How much did you pay @alwaysatyke ?

Wondering if it'll be cheaper than aldi's tablets.

Alwaysatyke · 02/09/2018 14:33

Think it was just under £4 for 24 capsules delivered (you get something like 9 in the initial free trial) and you can choose the delivery frequency

I use them. Find them very good value and convenient

Alwaysatyke · 02/09/2018 14:37

Just to add: one of the things i really liked about it was the packaging, really compact and not excessive (so hardly takes up any room in your cupboard) but also quite secure so hard for kids to get into it

HeyMacWey · 02/09/2018 14:41

And do you use one a wash?

Do you find you need to do a washing machine clean more often?

specialsubject · 02/09/2018 14:42

much pricier than liquid or box powder, and extra plastic in the packaging. like all laundry capsules, ok for planet haters made of money.

squadronleader87 · 02/09/2018 16:59

Thanks all! I do worry about the plastic waste. Might do the free trial and see how we get on.

All the packaging is recycled and recyclable, and they work out the same price as Aldi pods. Use one pod per wash and the pods are smaller than the other brands, so still less packaging.

yes, but pods themselves are pricier and produce more waste!

use less stuff, recycling does not come for free.

LemonysSnicket · 02/09/2018 19:12

Are the pods still made of plastic? If so do they not release micro plastics into the water supply with every wash?

36degrees · 02/09/2018 20:21

I use them, so far so good. As PP have said, they take up loads less space than powder, liquid or other pod alternatives, and fasten securely. They smell really nice, too.

trinitybleu · 04/09/2018 07:21

special The pods are cheaper than branded. Same price as Aldi. If I use liquid or powder, I tend to use too much so a measured amount works out much more economical for me. There's less packing so how do they produce more waste?

Lemony I believe the pod film breaks down into carbon dioxide and water or similar - read up on it year's ago but remember being satisfied. Was more worried about the chemicals in the actual washing liquid, from memory...

PiggeryPorcombe · 04/09/2018 07:56

Yes I use them and love them. Lovely scent but not too strong. I use one per wash for normal load, two if it’s a big load or I want more fragrance. Online account is easy to use/amend/cancel.

I think the first pack is just £1 isn’t it? Worth a try.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 04/09/2018 08:05

Yes ive been using them for a while. Really impressed with them and they use less chemically stuff in them. I have a big machine that I only run when full and use two pods.

specialsubject · 04/09/2018 09:22

a bottle of liquid was £1.75 in sainsbury yesterday - I use that one as almost no smell, the aldi one stinks. have to use liquid as septic tank.

20 washes out of that, I use half what the manufacturer recommends as that is all you need. One bottle to recycle.

so cheaper or the same, less packaging and no greenwash claims which really piss me off. 'less chemicals' -dickheads.

trinitybleu · 04/09/2018 20:35

You must have nice soft water special... Half the recommended amount here would be worse than useless. Based on the Sainsbury's info, I'd be in 1.5 caps minimum and more likely 2, especially as the machines are 9kg.

I can't actually smell the scent on the washing with these, just that it smells clean. Which suits me.

specialsubject · 04/09/2018 21:54

medium hard, I would say ( looking at the kettle)

not a huge machine though.

Diwiwnsj · 24/01/2024 09:31

Hi,

I was googling if smol products cause itchy skin and I came across this post.
I haven’t been using the capsules for that long but I am itching like crazy and I couldn’t figure out what it was as the only new thing I came in contact with were these Smol products.
I’m going to send them an email as I can’t bare it! The itchiness is ridiculous.

Sahara123 · 24/01/2024 09:46

If you set an account up - no need to order - you can see the prices. I pay £5.80 for 24 pods so 24p each. Quick look at brands in Tesco’s, seems comparable . Own brand looks cheaper but I love Smol, they work as well as any other and don’t have strong smells, Tesco’s own brands look to have lots of smells which I really don’t like . I also use the dishwasher tablets.
I get mine delivered grouped into 3 month deliveries now, you can still alter or add to the order if you need to.
