Not feeling my birthday surprise

I'm not being ungrateful. I am very grateful. DH has done a lovely thing and arranged afternoon tea in a very posh hotel for my birthday today. Date not flexible and childcare arranged.

However, I'm 35 weeks pregnant with 2 children and beyond exhausted from the summer holidays. I'm not at my best and got about 2 hours sleep last night. I feel sick and unwell and had to go back to bed i feel ao ill and to top it off I have nothing to wear. I have a few basic maternity clothes but nothing special. My last remaining suitable dress is now too small. So I'm sat looking at a maxi dress which isn't really suitable but the best of a bad lot. Got to leave in 15 mins and can't find the strengtg to pull myself together, so instead I'm wasting time on MN hoping that a suitable dress and some energy will magically appear....

Ohh no !
I hope you enjoy it when you get there! I had a similar experience but with a Christmas do, once I got there it was fab 💕

pickingdaisies · 02/09/2018 11:06

Get the dress on, be prepared to chuck on one of the maternity outfits if you really hate the dress now, then get on the slap, the earrings or whatever, some perfume, and smile! You'll feel better when you're there, and hopefully you can collapse in a heap when it's all over ((()))

This is what I'm hoping! Make up now done. Now I need to take off outfit 1 and try and work out what on earth to wear. Have also realised that my last 2 pair of suitable flat sandals have broken.

Anyone who would wear berkinstocks to a posh hotel...??

If you are 35 weeks pregnant you can wear whatever is comfortable on your feet.

Don't worry. Most people will look abd see a lovely glowing woman being taken out for a treat by a man who adores her and not give a shit about what you are wearing.

The rest are wankers 😁

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 02/09/2018 11:18

A maxi dress will look lovely. Even if you don’t feel like eating tons, just enjoy a nice peaceful afternoon of being waited on

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 02/09/2018 11:18

And put whatever you feel like on your feet!

museumum · 02/09/2018 11:19

A maxi dress and Birkenstocks is absolutely fine for a pregnant afternoon tea.

DorothyGarrod · 02/09/2018 11:22

I wear Birkenstocks everywhere! Have a lovely time.

Xenadog · 02/09/2018 11:22

My DP arranged an afternoon tea at The Dorchester on the super posh balcony to make it extra special. It was my 40th, I was in my first trimester and had the morning sickness feeling which lasted all day. I wore a maxi and drank passion fruit and ginger mock tails (as obviously the champagne was off the list) and had an OK time.

A bit like you, OP, I’d really rather have not gone but he’d put thought into the present and I did enjoy it on the whole.

I say, throw some clothes on and set out to enjoy it. Relax and let others make a fuss of you. You may feel grotty but I bet you look great - blooming and all that.

Have a great time!

Somanymistakes · 02/09/2018 11:39

I hope you enjoy it when you get there.

I went for a friends posh tea 40th birthday when I was very pregnant. It was full of annoying people eating one sandwich and tiny cake then claiming to be full.
So I ate all of the food. It was delicious. And ignored the raised eyebrows.

Somanymistakes · 02/09/2018 11:41

I wore trainers to a posh wedding with a posh frock. I had plantar fasciitis so couldn't walk in normal shoes.

Anyone half sensible will understand. Ignore the rest.

PerspicaciaTick · 02/09/2018 11:44

Wear what you like, it is your treat. A truly good hotel won't be fussed by birkenstocks on a pregnant guest, they will be focusing on making your experience fabulous.
I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you all - I felt much better after reading your comments but was in a bit of a rush to reply.

Wore a maxi dress and some sandals (plain and boring ones that I found) but was comfortable. The food was heavenly and I am totally stuffed. Probably gone over my caffeine limit for today, but never mind. I didn't feel underdressed though, especially when I saw some guests who were very dressed down....although most were very dressy.

Still feeling grotty and will appreciate sleep tonight. No rest tomorrow as I have my children and am babysitting for a friend. Now at families house where they are cooking a special birthday dinner. Smells amazing and is one of my favourites but I'm still VERY full.

You have a lovely thoughtful family, you are still entitled to feel grumpy but do appreciate them!

letsdolunch321 · 02/09/2018 16:00

If you cannot eat all the meal ask the host if you can take it home for lunch tomorrow. Enjoy 💐

LesLavandes · 02/09/2018 16:02

Have a lovely evening and all best for birth

MaverickSnoopy · 02/09/2018 16:57

Thanks all. Feeling much less grumpy now and just very very tired. Also less full so do have some space and will definitely ask to take some home.

All's well that ends well.
