“Not much capture”

My DM uses this phrase a lot, to mean she thinks something isn’t very good. We’re from the South west. Is this a local expression or more widely known?

Never heard it. I’m from Cornwall.

Never heard of it (SE)

Could it refer to something not capturing her attention?

Never heard of it in Yorkshire.

TBH It sounds like an airyfairy phrase that no Yorkshireman or woman would bother with!!!!

Is it management speak? Or is your friend trying to say "not much cop" (which I believe is a real phrase) and getting it wrong?

IdahoJones · 02/09/2018 11:06

It sounds like wanky advertising speak, borrowed from photography.

LOL at "management speak" or "wanky advertising speak"! No, it's really something my Mum has said all her life, and she's from a small town in Devon. It struck me yesterday that I'd never heard it anywhere else, but assumed it was something normal. I googled the phrase, and the only thing that came up was someone from Devon using it on a farming forum!

I think it's fair to say it must be a local expression, and certainly not well known, even in other parts of the South West.
