I have four hours to kill on Monday in stoke on Trent. Will be on my own no kids.

Have car. Need stay reasonably close to the hospital (child having operation)

Something to take my mind off child.

Only ever been to the hospital before.

Trentham gardens are really close it's lovely there.

If you don't fancy the actual gardens loads of pottering type lovely shops and free parking

Loads of nice places to eat.

Hope Op goes well Thanks

Emma Bridgewater factory tour. Lovely cafe as well 😀

MadisonAvenue · 01/09/2018 20:58

The Tower Of London poppies are at one of the pottery museums at the moment.
There’s the Emma Bridgwater Factory, I think you can do a factory tour and paint an item.

Toptrumploser · 01/09/2018 20:59

Yes trentham gardens would be ideal and not far at all from hospital.
I went there while I was being induced!
Hope the operation goes well

Tiredtomybones · 01/09/2018 21:00

Another vote for Trentham Gardens.

SilkeOvesen · 01/09/2018 21:03

If you like pottery at all then definitely the EB factory. Book tour tickets in advance online, or just go to the cafe. They have lovely food there and everyone is really friendly.

Trentham Gardens or Emma Bridgewater.

educatingarti · 01/09/2018 21:04

Go to the museum and see the Staffordshire Hoard of Anglo-Saxon gold!

HoardingQueen · 01/09/2018 23:20

Eat a Wrights pie (meat and potato), then another, and another, in every filling... followed by a big pile of staffordshire oatcakes, bacon and cheese, then sleep them off in the car , happy days :)

AlexanderHamilton · 01/09/2018 23:25

I’d go to Trentham. Pretty easy to get to from the hospital. I wouldn’t go to the hassle of parking in Hanley town centre just for the museum.

The other alternative would be Freeport Talke outlet or whatever they’ve just renamed it but 3-4 hours might be a stretch.

HerbNotErb · 01/09/2018 23:25

Love oatcakes

AlexanderHamilton · 01/09/2018 23:27

I’ll be sending Dd off to college with a dozen High Lane oatcakes.

Frazzled2207 · 02/09/2018 08:35

Trentham gardens

Magmatic80 · 02/09/2018 08:38

Go up Hanley on the bus duck

flapjackfairy · 02/09/2018 08:45

Yes trentham gardens is the way to go. Plenty to do and lots of nice bistros etc. My child is in for an op on friday this week but as i live round the corner from the hosp no excuse for a trentham jaunt . Ps hope op goes well x

Plumpcious · 02/09/2018 09:01

Wedgwood factory tour and museum! It's not far from Trentham Gardens so you could combine the two.

Look out for the hand-painted gold £1,000 dinner plates. Just don't break an unfired Jasperware teapot like I did Blush

Bluesheep8 · 02/09/2018 09:15

Ah you must try an oatcake with bacon and cheese! As pps have said, there are loads of lotteries to have a look around. Also, Newcastle under Lyme is quite nice to stroll around, a few nice shops plus close to the hospital.

SistersOfPercy · 02/09/2018 10:33

Trentham is good but expensive and not too far from the hospital, also as has been said Newcastle. There is a lovely little Garden Centre/Craft place called Garners just up the road too thats nice and does a lovely cuppa.

There is a big B&M just down the road and a McDonalds on the same retail park.
Wishing you well x
