Twatting, bastarding head lice!

I noticed about 10 days ago that both dc’s were scratching their heads. Further investigation revealed both of them had head lice. I’ve been scratching too but I haven’t yet found any evidence of lice.

I got a Nitty Gritty and combed through both dc’s hair with conditioner. Attempted to do the same to mine. My hair is very thick, very curly and nearly down to my elbows. I used two large bottles of conditioner on my hair and was as methodical as I could be. I then used Headrin Once and combed through again. I repeated the above the next day on dc’s and myself.

A week later I noticed dc’s scratching again and repeated the whole palaver for all of us. I assumed maybe some eggs had survived as the ones I found were a lot smaller. Again repeated on us all the next day (yesterday).

I have just combed dc1’s hair again and found a load of enormous ones Angry. Both dc’s have short, back and sides and they must be getting them from me. I don’t have anyone that can comb my hair and I’m obviously not being thorough enough (even though I spent 90 bloody minutes combing each time).

Will the little bastards ever leave? Is there some cure-all I’ve missed? They’re back at school on Tuesday. I wanted to get their haircut on Monday but I’d be mortified if the barber spotted lice.

Took us about a fortnight to fully serve eviction proceedings on the little bastards last time the kids have them (DD2 in particular has very very thick long hair). Two goes with the hedrin and then a good fortnight of clean up combing and combing and combing (and one of mine has sensory issues and the other generally just screams blue murder when accosted with a hair brush so the comb was NOT HER FRIEND) before we stopped finding new ones emerging.

Distract the DC with iPad or tv while combing. I've used Full Marks before with success. You need to treat twice, one week apart, and be really thorough for success. Full Marks is very oily which helps get it through long or curly hair and also conditions it which is a bonus

I haven’t tried full marks yet, I’ll give that a go. Both dc’s are being very tolerant of me constantly picking at them like a monkey. I’m sure that I’m the source though. It’s times like this I wish I had my dm nearby. She’d have a wonderful time grooming me.

Do both dcs with the hedrin once. Wash it out with shampoo, condition it and when conditioner is in, do the nitty gritty comb through. Then at that moment they won’t have any nits, take them to the barber, presumably they’re boys so get it cut as short as you can. Depends how you feel about really short hair but you can shave it so short that nits can’t live in it. Then once you have the kids sorted you can tackle your own hair which is likely to be the reinfestation ptoblem.

To solve it, I’d treat you hedrin once then wash every day for a week but each time you wash it in the shower put the nitty gritty comb through it when it’s got conditioner in. Then after the week, treat again with hedrin once regardless of whether you see anything.

We finally got rid of the kids persistent head lice years ago by taking the kids swimming once a week and we all held our heads, up to the hairline, under the water for 5 minutes every night in the bath.

Continued to do the heads under water in the bath for 6 months and the blighters have never come back.

We do all go swimming a couple of times a week. I’ll attempt a drowning of them at bath time tonight, thanks.

I’ve also spotted a Robicomb on Amazon which claims to detect head lice and electrocute them. Mixed reviews but I’m willing to try anything right now.
