I’m sick of feeling crap due to my lifestyle

I eat too much sugar and crap. I don’t drink enough water. I don’t exercise much at the moment.
I sleep too late and spend far, far too much time on my phone.
I really want to change all this so I’m making a start today, and hopefully I’ll lose weight and start to feel better.
I’m not going drastic but things like include fruit and veg with every meal, stopping snacking, walking more, going to bed at 10.30 and spending 2hrs on my phone only.
I want to pick up a book instead of my phone.

If you’ve made these kinds of changes, please tell me how it was for you and inspire me Smile

Have you thought about reading children’s or young adult books? I often find I’m too tired to concentrate properly on a heavy book and I’ve really enjoyed some of the ones I’ve had to read ready for teacher training.

I agree, it’s worth seeing your gp for a thyroid/iron etc check.

Have a look at the ‘No S diet’ website here. I’m doing it and feel a lot better for it. Basically you don’t snack, eat sweets or have seconds except on S days (Saturdays, Sundays and two exceptional days in the month). It’s got my sugar cravings under control and I have more energy. I also found my PMS wasn’t so bad this month.

I'm the same OP - I'm sick of feeling lethargic because I eat and drink crap, I've put on weight, I spend far too much time on my phone/ laptop and I've snuck into the habit of having a drink pretty much every evening over the summer.

I'm with you OP! I cancelled my mumsnet account before the summer break and that really helped with the phone addiction. As you can see I have no will power. Blush

ILiveInSalemsLot · 01/09/2018 19:09

Kew Smile I have no willpower either. I’ve just checked my phone usage for the last 7 days. (Under settings, battery on iPhone)
I’ve been on my phone for 42hrs in total. How shameful.
I could’ve done so much more with that time.
No s diet seems to be what I’m aiming for.

Following with interest, you are not alone!

Haggisfish · 01/09/2018 19:39

You are absolutely not alone!! Will post more later.

Melfish · 01/09/2018 19:43

I’m the same. I keep putting things off and am glued to my phone and Ipad. I have restarted couch 2 5k and am making time to read in the evening. I’ve restarted my fitness pal as I’d like to shift a pound a week. Lots of restarting going on! I think September or March as more of a new year resolution type time as let’s face it, January’s far too depressing!

LemonysSnicket · 01/09/2018 19:47

Why not just pick one or two things first? Instead of challenging yourself to change everything all at once and feeling like you've failed at everything if you've dropped the ball on one.

Although tbh I don't understand how people don't eat vegetables with every meal tbh...every common recipe contains 2-3 veg

8FencingWire · 01/09/2018 20:03

I joined a book club to keep my reading in check:)

silkpyjamasallday · 01/09/2018 20:21

I'm the same. I've started making a few small changes, cutting out caffeine in the afternoons and evenings and drinking herbal tea instead, reading for half an hour to an hour before bed instead of going on my phone and eating fruit as snacks instead of biscuits. I also timetabled all of my waking hours so I don't spend dead time on my phone and I have a pot to put it in out of the way so I'm not tempted. I have also downloaded an app with an exercise plan with yoga and cardio that I can easily slot in at home most days, in theory. I'm on holiday at the moment and I'm itching to get home so I can start living better. I can make sure DD is eating a balanced diet but haven't bothered with myself, which is definitely contributing to how crap I feel. Loads of good ideas on this thread, good luck everyone.

Bullnoway · 01/09/2018 20:25

Same here. The first thing that has helped me (and I have a way to go) has been becoming vegan. It has felt like a positive - and delicious - choice, rather than about restricting or abstaining from something. The second has been deleting ALL social media from my phone. I just stopped looking. Other good things - weight loss, energy, ideas!, reading - have all stemmed from these two choices. Good luck OP x

QueenieMum · 01/09/2018 20:33

You're definitely not alone @ILiveInSalemsLot, I feel the same too. There really is no substitute for just doing it though. Choose the one thing you want to focus on the most and start. Waiting until you're ready is counterproductive as you never will be, something will always get in the way. Doing a bit of exercise will give you energy to do more. Do something tomorrow, anything on your original post list. Do it!

Kewqueue · 02/09/2018 08:34

Silkypyjamas - what's the app?

ILiveInSalemsLot · 02/09/2018 11:39

I love the idea of timetabling my waking hours. I’m going to try that.

I’ve been for 5km walk this morning. I bought lots of fruit and veg yesterday and started the day with lemon water.
