Does a pack of 100 Ikea tealights count as 1 or 100?

Other than that, I have at least 20 which I’m gradually working my way through now the evenings are darker.

Onlyfools · 31/08/2018 21:38

16 here.

Justabadwife · 31/08/2018 21:40

I only have 1 Yankee candle and 1 large woodwick candle and 1 very very nearly empty woodwick candle hidden behind the TV, that I like to smell alot

I'm lacking on the candle front.

None here - I don’t want to burn my house down. I’m particularly wary of them with children - halloween bothers me because of the candles near children.

Thehappychef · 31/08/2018 21:42

I thought 15 was a lot until I counted mine and realised I'd got 14. Makes the living room so cosy when they are all lit.

bertielab · 31/08/2018 21:44

25 in my winter lounge with log burner. We embrace hyggae here and log burner and candles on in evenings all year around (not all of them), also helps mask the doggie smells. Yep the ones when all my dogs have been swimming in the river and then dry off in the lounge. Phew........ much nicer with yankee candles on the go. As fast as I use them I get them for gifts!

Needsleepneedsleep · 31/08/2018 21:44

None here either because I am worried about the fire risk especially with cats wandering around, but am thinking of buying some LED battery candles instead for the long dark evenings ahead.

PanamaPattie · 31/08/2018 21:47

I'm too embarrassed to admit my number Blush

NormaLouiseBates · 31/08/2018 21:47

I'm a bit scared on candles Blush I had one going last night and I couldn't relax; I kept turning around to check on it. What I thought it would do I have no idea. I do love the look of them though when they're lit... might invest in some of the battery ones instead!

A shelf to display yankee candles is bonkers!

CatchingBabies · 31/08/2018 21:48

Just counted. I’ve got 7 in the living room and 21 in the whole house. I think that’s a normal amount. All get lit except DDs one that she made in her bedroom and I have a drawer full of replacements.

DollyWilde · 31/08/2018 21:50

11 in the living room (hurricane lamp, two tall dinner ones, 2 x scented and three sets of three tea lights) and a further 5 in the house (3 in bedrooms, one in hall, one in main bathroom).

Off to show DH this thread so he can see I dont have the most candles in one flat...

Mumofoneprem · 31/08/2018 21:54

I've also realised I have a hierarchy of rooms which dictates the quality of the candle. If I get a new posh candle it begins life either in the living room or my bedroom. An existing candle may need to be moved out to the kitchen or a bathroom. Eventually they end up in the conservatory aka candle exile where they melt away on a hot day and get binned.

None here as my partner is a fireman & he has attended too many house fires caused by candles. So all naked flames are outside in our house!

NonaGrey · 31/08/2018 22:05

I don’t know how a tealight is a fire risk?

Well Nacreous just for example the OP has candles on her hearth. It’s easy enough to imagine one getting accidentally knocked into someone’s clothing or falling onto the hearth rug. (Eg if a card or something fell off the mantelpiece above)

Anything that generates heat and has an naked flame is a potential fire hazard. It might be manageable risk of course but it is a risk.

Fire services often give specific warnings about tea lights because the foil part can get hot enough to melt plastic, so if placed on top of a TV or the edge of a bath without a proper tea light holder they can burn right through the surface they’re sitting in a start a fire.

Candles under shelves, near curtains, Christmas decorations and near draughts are also dangerous.

I’m sure everyone here is very careful with their candles but nevertheless they are a safety hazard.

Mumofoneprem · 31/08/2018 22:13

Nona - I agree if they are by a curtain or next to something flammable like a card! Mine aren't.. and they only get lit when I'm settling down in the room at night. It's so cosy and bar an earthquake or something they aren't going to get knocked over.

Glad to hear it Mum very sensible.

I’m enjoying hearing about everyone’s (slightly odd) candle obsessions though - my mind is blown by the idea of a candle drawer. Grin

Nacreous · 31/08/2018 22:27

Nona Ahah, this is where I had gone wrong. It had not occurred to me that anyone would conceivably put them on the floor, or under a curtain, or not in a glass or ceramic container. That was naive of me.

NCNCNC123 · 31/08/2018 22:28

21 that I could light this instant (had to get up and count them).

Another 6 holders with no candles in. 5 candles wrapped up in a bowl.

More candles in the bathroom.

NonaGrey · 31/08/2018 22:33

I did read something somewhere about one of the problems with tea lights was that they are sold in bulk without holders and without necessarily including safety advice.

All the twinkles do look very, very pretty but I stick to the battery operated ones for Halloween and Christmas decorations.

dementedma · 31/08/2018 22:38

probably about 20 assorted tea lights and candles, mostly in votives of different colours.
Generally unscented as many of the scented one smell vile and make me sneeze. Exception is isle of Skye Candles.
the front room is cold so the candles warm it up and make it look cosy

MrsLJ2014 · 31/08/2018 23:10

Just 2 in the lounge, which were lit earlier on but blown out now as I'm sleepy. However, I have lots and lots stashed in various cupboards and drawers around the house as I keep receiving them every Christmas / end of school year (teacher!) I don't like the clash of smells if I have too many lit at once!

BoneyBackJefferson · 01/09/2018 00:31

16 is the correct number you are missing one.

Bluesheep8 · 01/09/2018 07:44

I must have at least 20 Yankee candles. I have a dedicated cupboard for them in the utility room. Large jars, votives and tea lights. My favourite scent is witches brew which is only available in the medium size around Halloween so I have to stock up then. Last year I bought 6 Blush which is probably bonkers...
