Walnut seed pods?

ShrodingersSturdyPyjamas · 31/08/2018 17:43

Yes walnuts. Don't be ready for a fair while yet.

Knittedfairies · 31/08/2018 17:44

Ah, just seen the second picture, and now I think chaenomeles fruits - aka Japanese quince, maybe?

crazydoglady6867 · 31/08/2018 17:44

Thanks

Have you touched them? If they are walnuts the pod will make your hands turn black/dark brown

AdaColeman · 31/08/2018 17:45

Yes walnuts, lucky you!
Do you like pickled walnuts?

ShrodingersSturdyPyjamas · 31/08/2018 17:46

Oh yes the second pic is showing the spikes of the branches, which means Japanese Quinces.

Lucky you!

crazydoglady6867 · 31/08/2018 19:02

They are in my daughters garden, I think s quince recipe search is on the cards!

I don't think they are 'proper' quinces. The plant is a japonica - I don't know if the fruit are edible.

ShrodingersSturdyPyjamas · 31/08/2018 19:14

They are edible, I have several jars of japanese quince marmalade in my pantry.

OP you need to wait until you can smell them. Then they are ripe.

crazydoglady6867 · 31/08/2018 20:25

Thanks shrodingers

I would think quince as well, particularly from the 2nd picture, but also from the top part of the cut(ted) up fruit in the 1st pic.
Know very little about quince, though, apart from you have the jelly with cheese, cold meats etc.
