Baby in Hospital ?

What happens if a mother is ill and her baby is ebf only just started solids and has cmpa so cant have formula ??
I’m not well but I don’t know what to do will baby be allowed to come too ? He’s fed numerous times in night and in the day too just had a tiny amount of purée twice a day
He won’t take a bottle
I only have 4 oz frozen anyway
I don’t know what to do I’m trying to wait till I really need to go but I feel awful
Would they let him stay with me if dh stays too and just brings him to me for feeds ?

At our hospital baby can stay with you. Hope you feel better soon.

Would that be the same going in through a and e ? I’m so worried

You should be able to stay with your baby. However, even with CMPA their are formula's that are ok (eg neocate)

Fiery45 · 31/08/2018 16:37

I don’t have any though. I will see if I can order some but I feel like I may end up at hospital quite soon (kidney infection) so do t have a lot of time to get organised and feel so ill

If need be the hospital can prescribe you some

Fiery45 · 31/08/2018 16:38

Ok so if I go I will take him too I worry about exposing him to germs in a and e but he can’t be away from me. It’s bad either way. What an absolute disaster

Take baby with you, they won't separate you (not at the hospital close to me so assuming yours won't either) if a nurse can't help you by passing DD to you, DH will have to stay to help. I'm sure if you explain they will accommodate even if DH sleeps in a chair.

You won't be the first and you won't be the last mum who needs to have her baby with her when she's Ill.

You poor thing. Really feel for you. Hope you get right sided up soon Flowers

Thankyou I’m holding off till I’m desperate in case he antibiotics kick in but currently I feel dreadful
I’m going to pack a bag for both me and baby and have it ready. He’s so good I’m hoping he won’t be a nuisance to anyone he never cries just feeds and sleeps or is happy so if I do go in he shouldn’t keep anyone else awake

The hospital may be able to source a breastpump from the infant feeding coordinators/maternity ward or with a bit of ringing around may be able to find sonewhere that hires them out. I recently helped a friend do this as she was admitted for an op for a week. They may be able to put you on a ward where you can have your baby with you, but don't know how likely that is. Please get seen soonwr rather than later, your infection will be easier to treat and then you'll be less lokely to be admitted!

HopeAndJoy16 · 31/08/2018 17:10

Also if you can express you (or partner) can try giving baby milk by cup or even spoon if they won't take a bottle

Crunchymum · 31/08/2018 18:14

If there is a labour / neonatal ward then they should be able to source you a pump.

Crunchymum · 31/08/2018 18:16

All well if he won't take a bottle then formula was out of the question anyway?

I really wouldn't take a baby to A&E on a Friday evening if you can?

How does he take water? What amounts is he eating?

Fiery45 · 31/08/2018 18:30

He doesn’t really drink water I’ve tried but it’s same with bottle and sippy cup although we keep trying be just seems to have breast milk as his drink
He eats porridge with soya milk about 2 dessert spoons each morning and has 1-2 dessert spoons of veg purée at lunchtime it’s been a slow process due to reflux

I’m hoping antibiotics start to work so I can avoid it
