The Comedy Store Leicester Square

A middle aged friend and I are on a mission to try new things and we've never been to a comedy club so we're going.

Don't tell me we've picked the wrong one and there are better cheaper ones around, I'm sure you're right but we've booked.

So what should we expect? Etiquette? Will we be twice the age of anyone else? But mostly what on earth do I wear? I'm not very good at dressy casual. I'm usually either dressed up or scruffy.

Doesn't matter what you wear. Most people are in jeans and t shirts type things. Scruffy is fine in sure. You won't be too old. Lots of different ages go there. I love it so have a great time.

Don’t sit near the front unless you don’t mind being picked on by the comedian!!!

Wherever you go at this time of year, it's probably best to dress in layers. You never know if it's going to be boiling hot or freezing cold in a lot of buildings.

Second to not sitting near the front.... nor going to the toilet during any of the acts Blush

HollyBollyBooBoo · 31/08/2018 14:22

Oh and don't heckle!

Ontheboardwalk · 31/08/2018 14:43

Get there early so you can get a good seat and not be forced to sit in the empty front row seats. You can grab a drink and bar snacks before it starts

Bestseller · 31/08/2018 14:56

Thank you, how early is early for a 7:30 show

We were thinking of getting something to eat first as the menu there looks fairly grim but will be a bit tight for time, so maybe I'll eat at home!

Think the doors open around 6, I would aim for half past.

Last time I went we had something to eat near Leicester Square and it was heaving. It took ages to be served so we didn’t get to comedy club until just after 7 for the 7.30 show.

It’s this experience I base my tip about being forced to sit on the front row on!

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 31/08/2018 17:30

Think we sa5 in the premium seats when we turned up last minute as everyone thought they weren't allowed to sit in them even though the bloke on the door had told us to sit anywhere. (Think that was the same venue.)

Stickerrocks · 31/08/2018 17:35

The menu sounds grim but it's actually quite good value for money if you don't mind a burger. The Comedy Store Players/ Paul Merton & Chums evenings are great. I'm envious.

Bestseller · 31/08/2018 18:02

OK, thanks all. So if we arrive at 6:30 to get seats, then we do we have time to eat there? I. E. Can you reserve seats/do you eat in your seat or is it food then find a seat?

The Comedy Store Players/ Paul Merton & Chums evenings are great.

Good lord, I saw them in 1989 ! Comedy Store Sunday evenings was a regular night out. There were only one set of toilets in the old venue, so you ended up rubbing shoulders with the stars ...

Stickerrocks · 31/08/2018 20:24

DGR and they're still genuinely funny. Yes, I did share sink space with Josie Lawrence!
