Terrible hangovers

Since I had a couple of alcohol blow outs this last year I feel very ill the following day from drinking more than about a glass of wine in an evening. Have I damaged my liver?! Will it go away? I previously had 2 or 3 glasses of wine and would feel fine the next day.

Mid 40s female... possibly peri-menopausal if that makes any difference.

What can I do if anything to feel better?! This causes me no issues normally as I don't drink much it often - but I am going to a 40th next month and I'm dreading it! I am good at pretending to drink but I know the pressure will be on. Sad

You should never need to pretend to drink so not sure what the idea behind this is? If you can have fun and enjoy yourself and not feel the need to drink, then you absolutely don't have to and will thank yourself for it the next day!

If however you do want to drink, make sure to have a good meal before you go to the party, and try adding glasses of water between drinks and you should hopefully benefit from this :)

You could try drinking something other than wine and see if that's any better. I'm a similar age as you and feel horrible straight away if I drink wine but I can drink a few (not many) spirits and be OK.

And obviously eat well, drink water, and don't drink too much.

It could well be an age thing.
Listen to your body. Don't feel pressured to drink!

It's normal for hangovers to get worse with age (though yours sound particularly bad). My friend is like this (he's 45). Just have one glass and explain why.
