I am so angry and looking to vent and ask WWYD if you were me?

I bought a new car last Saturday it’s just less than 2 years old 11,500 miles on the clock and I bought it direct from a dealership. It was £10k and to me that’s a huge amount of money. We’ve saved for ages and taken out a small loan as I was slightly short on money and my other car is beyond repair. I had planned to upgrade my car but not just yet.

I noticed after a few days my petrol gauge seemed to be going down a lot for the amount of miles I was doing. My husband noticed it was leaking what he thought was oil all over the drive. I popped it into the local garage yesterday after work and they have said it’s leaking petrol not oil and to not drive it.

Not a problem I thought, it’s under warranty for a year and a bit. I spoke to my local dealership a different one to where I bought it to get it booked in. First available appointment is in 4 weeks time FFS. It has to be taken to a dealership and I have to pay £300 to get it diagnosed before they know if it’s covered under the warranty.

I’m now slightly freaking out, what if it’s not covered under warranty? I won’t know until it’s been diagnosed and we find out exactly what’s wrong with it. We’ve stretched the budget so I could get a car with a lot lower mileage so hopefully it would last longer as I’ve had a bad run of luck with older higher mileage cars recently despite not doing much mileage. We have no more money to pay for repairs.

So I’m now stuck with a expensive lemon that’s pissing petrol all over my drive.
So I’m now stuck without a car for 4 weeks and am so angry. I haven’t caused a fuss and was super polite over the phone, is it worth going to the dealership and talking to them again or start kicking off? It’s not on my nature but needs must.

Tell the garage you bought it from you are returning it as it is not fit for purpose and that you want a full refund. You could contract Trading Standards first to get full details of your rights.

I did that some years ago with a car I bought that was faulty immediately. They tried to put me off but I persisted and did get the money back.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for the information you’ve provided.

I didn’t and should of stated in my post car was bought from a dealership 300 miles away. If I could of taken it back today for a refund I would of. But it’s getting it there that’s a issue now. But due to the information provided I’m pushing for a repair as stated by sale of goods.

I did go to my local dealer and spoke to a manager there who basically said bring the car to them as it’s unacceptable to wait that length of time. We did, they called a mechanic to look at it as you can see the petrol leaking from it. They said they will get it in for repair in the next few days so that’s great.

But they know already this isn’t covered under the warranty. They are going to call me when they know the final price and I’m going to have to borrow more money on my online loan to pay this bill off and they had said I need to claim it back against the original dealership.

Still a PITA but I’m great full that our local one has great customer service.

Phone the garage you bought it from and tell them unless they sort out with the fixing garage to pay the bill they will get the car back.

Don't worry too much about actually having to take it back they should pay to put it right.

We did this with a car we bought. The problem was covered by warranty in the end but we had an agreement that the garage we bought it from would pay to put it right if it wasn't
