I've upset the yoghurt gods

Help! After over ten years of making yogurt week in, week out, I've lost it!

The last few times have been dreadful - runny and not consistent in texture. It tastes ok, although maybe a bit more mild than usual.

I've not changed anything - whole UHT milk, starter from a fresh Yeo Valley yoghurt for the first one (which was ok), and when it started to go wrong, I reset with a new Yeo Valley starter. Then the most recent one was from the scrapings of the YV one, so only the second iteration. Fairly generous amount of whole milk powder, and then put in an Easy-Yo flask.

Everything clean and dishwashed. I left the YV one and yesterday's to yog for a bit longer than I would usually because they were the child and grandchild.

I know I can strain it but I usually get lovely rich, creamy, thick, tart yoghurt. This is more like mild yoghurt soup.

Help! Sometimes I do something to anger the gods but then can put it right by using a fresh starter but I've not managed it this time.

I'm bereft.

Thank you for this Thread, I have just read it to DH, and he has declared that we have clearly slipped through a wormhole and you are me in a year’s time.

I’ve only recently started yoghurt making, and it has been declared an outlet for broodiness, since dh caught me retrieving my first (perfectly formed) batch from the airing cupboard. It was wrapped in a warm towel and I might have been holding it as one would hold their newborn.

I can’t possibly comment.

It also caused our best argument of the year, after he broke the line of descendancy, and murdered my —babies— yoghurt after only two generations (I will never forgive him and all future yoghurt will be a pale facsimile of what it could have been).

Anyway. Let the yoghurt gods smile down upon you, and just in case you are me from the future, I would welcome any lottery ticket numbers from the last year if you happen to know them.

Just been in Tesco, they have Tesco Finest unhomogenised Channel Island milk, 1 ltr bottles I think they were.

The cows weren't too keen on the heatwave, upset them.

That's very exciting news! Will have a look in Tesco - thank you! My yoghurt is proud of its republican credentials.
