Im sorry this is long! Have NC and will be a bit vague in places to avoid being too identifying. I am two weeks away from leaving my current role with a big public sector organisation.
I have been in the role just over a year and throughout that time have been constantly criticised by my boss. Every decision I make is undermined and I am heavily influenced not to come up with my own ideas or use my own initiative. If I do decide to do so the criticism is instant and I often end up having to retract whatever decision I have made.
I am interrogated about everything, if I have a conversation with a colleague or a member of staff I manage I have to recount it in exact detail and usually be criticised for it.
I manage quite a large number of staff as part of my role but whenever I try to manage them it is instant interference from above. I am very supportive of flexible working (as is the organisation I work for) etc as a working parent myself but my boss encourages or discourages me from allowing it based on how much they like the member of staff requesting it. There is one member of staff who is particularly disliked (because they have stood up to my boss in the past) and who has had their request to increase their hours refused for years. This is actually something I have managed to get through but only with the help of HR.
Anyway that's just to give you an idea of some of the issues. I am leaving the organisation entirely and taking a role far below my current one as I have had my confidence shot to pieces. I wasn't planning to raise my concerns about my boss with anyone until this morning when the staff I manage who are not aware of my concerns voiced their own concerns to me which are the same issues as I have experienced. However they won't give me permission to raise this on their behalf and won't do it themselves and obviously I cannot break that confidentiality.
My question is whether or not I raise my concerns and while I do so mention that other members of staff have similar concerns? If I don't mention names or even which group of staff is it still breaking their confidence? My concern is that things will continue to be awful for those left behind and that my replacement will be walking into a horrific situation.
